Meerut, 19 March 2026: A special lecture on the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat aur Nagrik Kartavya” was jointly organized by the Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Kerala Varma Subharti College of Science at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut. The programme was held at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium of the Faculty of Fine Arts with the objective of creating awareness among students about the ill effects of drug abuse and promoting responsible citizenship based on constitutional values.
The programme featured Dr. Akhilesh Kumar Nigam, IG (CID), Uttar Pradesh Police, as the Chief Speaker. Ms. Alka Singh, SP (CID), Meerut Zone, Uttar Pradesh Police, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The dignitaries were formally welcomed by Prof. Shalya Raj, CEO of the University, and Prof. Pramod Kumar Sharma, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. The formal proceedings commenced with the welcome address delivered by Prof. R. K. Jain, Dean, Faculty of Science.
In her address, Ms. Alka Singh encouraged students to remain vigilant and responsible in their personal and social conduct. She advised them to stay away from unlawful activities and emphasized the importance of living within the framework of law to ensure a secure and successful future. She highlighted that awareness and self-discipline among youth are essential for building a safe and progressive society.
The Chief Speaker, Dr. Akhilesh Kumar Nigam, explained in a very simple and impactful manner the harmful consequences of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society. He motivated students to adopt a drug-free lifestyle and stressed the importance of understanding and performing one’s duties as a responsible citizen. He emphasized that youth play a crucial role in nation-building and must actively contribute towards maintaining social harmony, moral values, and national integrity.
The programme aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) as the core objective, supported by SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). Additionally, the initiative indirectly contributes to SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by promoting awareness, social responsibility, and equitable access to opportunities for a healthy and safe society.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, and a large number of students, reflecting the relevance and significance of the theme. The session provided valuable insights from experienced law enforcement officials and inspired participants to adopt ethical values, discipline, and social responsibility in their lives.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Dr. Seema Sharma, Head, Department of Languages, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished speakers, university authorities, faculty members, and students for their active participation and contribution to the successful organization of the event.
