CONCEPT NOTE
The 5-Day Summer Workshop titled “Buddha Kī Vāṇī: Jīvana Darśana” is an initiative to explore the timeless teachings of the Buddha as a practical guide to ethical living, social harmony, and inner awakening. Drawing upon the canonical and philosophical dimensions of Pāḷi literature, this workshop seeks to reintroduce the relevance of Buddhist thought in today’s fragmented world.
This initiative by the Department of Culture, Govt. of U.P., jointly organized by the Antarrashtriya Bauddh Shodh Sansthan & The Tathāgat Buddha Chair, is envisioned as a vibrant academic platform for scholars, practitioners, and students to critically engage with the Buddha’s teachings in light of contemporary challenges.
OBJECTIVES
This 5-day summer workshop offers a focused academic platform for exploring the philosophical depth and practical relevance of the Buddha’s teachings. It intends to promote interdisciplinary engagement between Buddhist thought and contemporary social and personal challenges. By facilitating reflective study on selected Pāḷi suttas and engaging with core ethical concepts of the Dhamma, the workshop encourages a deeper intellectual and spiritual inquiry into mindful living. It further seeks to inspire young scholars, students, and practitioners to take a renewed interest in Buddhist Studies and the Pāḷi language, while also disseminating universal values such as compassion, mindfulness, and righteous conduct rooted in the Buddha’s vāṇī.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The workshop is expected to enhance participants’ understanding of the Pāḷi Canon and its continuing significance in the modern world. It will clarify how Buddhist ethical and philosophical principles can be applied to individual life and societal well-being. By encouraging academic discussion and meditative introspection, the program aims to foster an inclusive environment for intercultural and interfaith dialogue. It will also stimulate research interest, scholarly collaboration, and deeper institutional engagement with Buddhist values, contributing to global conversations on peace, sustainability, and spiritual resilience.
