“Training Program for Underprivileged Women”
Swami Vivekanand Subharti University is deeply committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular focus on Goal No. 3, which emphasizes “Good Health and Well-being.” In line with this commitment, the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Department of Home Science has taken an important initiative to raise awareness among underprivileged females, including non-teaching staff and wage laborers of Subharti University, regarding menstrual health, hygiene, the significance of using sanitary napkins and enhancing employability. On October 14, 2023, a training program and an awareness session on the manufacturing of sanitary napkins were organized under the auspices of the Janaky Athi Nahappan Incubation Centre.
This endeavor was a collaborative effort, with the Home Science Department working in conjunction with the support of the Subharti University Administration and SETU, a registered NGO with the Government of India. The event commenced with Ms. Urvashi Sharma addressing the current state of menstrual health and hygiene, particularly in underprivileged areas. She encouraged the female participants to embrace the use of sanitary napkins and promote good hygiene practices for their daughters, after that a hands-on demonstration was carried out to visually explain the production process of sanitary napkins, showcasing the materials and steps involved. The motive of this training program is to enhance the employability skills & entrepreneurship development among these women
The training session was carried out successfully under the guidance of Dr Nishma Singh, the Head of the Department of Home Science, and received support from both teaching and non-teaching staff members.
