Two Day Hands on Workshop on Sewing Machines (Day 1)
The Department of Fashion, Textile & Interior Design successfully conducted the first day of the Two-Day Hands-On Workshop on Sewing Machines in collaboration with Usha International Ltd. on 7th February 2025 at the Garment Construction Lab. The workshop aimed to provide students with practical exposure to modern sewing machines and their applications in the fashion and textile industry.
The event commenced with an inaugural session, which included a lamp-lighting ceremony graced by distinguished guests, dignitaries, and faculty members. The resource person for the workshop, Mr. Vikas Bhardwaj, Sales Manager (U.P. & Uttarakhand), Usha International Ltd., led the session with his expertise in sewing machine technology. He was accompanied by Mr. Pradeep Sharma, Territory Incharge, Mr. Vansh Patel, Usha Janome Promoter, and Mr. Surya Kant, Usha Janome Promoter, who assisted in providing hands-on training to students.
The event was honored by the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra, Dean & Principal, Faculty of Fine Arts, Prof. (Dr.) Abhay Shankaregowda, Dean, Faculty of Naturopathy, Dr. Nishima, HOD, Home Science, Dr. Bhawna Grover, HOD, Performing Arts, and the HOD, Fashion, Textile & Interior Design. The workshop was successfully organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra, with Dr. Neha Singh as the Convenor and Dr. Rashika Kashyap as the Co-Convenor. The event was attended by faculty members from the Department of Fashion, Textile & Interior Design, including Ms. Shradha Yadav, Ms. Devsuni, Ms. Abhilasha Garg, Ms. Shailja Sindhay, and Ms. Shabnum, along with students from Fashion Design, Textile Design, Interior Design, and Home Science.
The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Maj Gen (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal, and the CEO of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, appreciated the initiative and extended their best wishes for the success of the workshop, encouraging students to make the most of the hands-on learning experience.
The technical session began with Mr. Bhardwaj introducing students to the basics of sewing machines and their various components. The hands-on training allowed students to gain practical knowledge of different sewing techniques and machine operations. One of the key highlights of the day was the Usha Memory Craft 450E, a fully automatic embroidery machine, which fascinated students with its advanced features and precision. Additionally, students explored other specialized sewing machines, including the Usha Allure, Usha Wonder Stitch, and Usha Magic Stitch, gaining insights into various modern sewing techniques.
The session was highly interactive and engaging, with students actively participating in the hands-on training. The workshop served as an excellent platform for them to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical applications. The first day concluded on a productive and insightful note, with students eagerly looking forward to the second day for more advanced demonstrations and interactive sessions.
