The Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Weaver’s Service Centre, Meerut, organized Weaves of India: GI Handloom Exhibition on 21st August 2025 as part of the 11th National Handloom Day celebrations, coinciding with World Fashion Day.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Sharma and Hon’ble CEO Madam Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj lauded the weavers for their artistry and contribution to preserving India’s cultural heritage.

The program, led by Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra (Dean & Principal, Nandlal Bose Subharti College of Fine Arts and Fashion Design) and Dr. Neha Singh (HOD, Fashion & Textile Design), featured master weavers Shri Kamaluddin Ansari and Shri Saifur Rehman Ansari (Banarasi Brocade, Varanasi) and Shri Farooq Ahmad Dar (Pashmina, Srinagar). Their presence was supported by Ms. Vaishali Tiwari and Mr. Balwant Singh from WSC Meerut.

Students interacted with the weavers, gaining insights into traditional weaving practices and cultural narratives. A curated display showcased GI-tagged treasures like Banarasi Brocades,  Pashmina Shawls and Jamdani Sarees

The exhibition was a great success, drawing enthusiastic participation from students and faculty alike.
