Workshop on Enhancing Communication Skills

A Guest Lecture was organized by the Department of Language on “Enhancing English Communication Skill” on 7th April 2023. The Lecture was conducted at the Seminar Hall, Subharti College of Hotel Management for the students of Subharti College of Management and Commerce and Subharti College of Hotel Management. The main emphasis of the Guest Lecture was to make the students aware of elements of the spoken English.

The Chief Resource Person Dr. Tushti Shrama, Professor and Head, Department of Language was assisted by Ms Aditi Goswami, Assistant professor, Department of Language, Ms Vibha Gharvi, Assistant Professor, Department of Language and Mrs Preeti Singhwal, Personality Development officer and student welfare officer.

This Lecture was scheduled in four sessions i.e., “Reading & comprehension skill”, “Professional Introduction”, “Grammar Skills” and “Activity based Group discussion, extempore & Report”.

During the first session, Dr Tushti Sharma projected a lime light on various aspects of improving the communication skills among students and also encouraged the students to make use of the lecture to the maximum extent possible in order to enhance their communication skills. Dr. Sharma elucidated the students all the elements of reading and comprehension skills.

During the Second session Mrs. Preeti Singhwal explained to the student how one should introduce themselves. Further she added the attributes like posture, gesture and your body language play a crucial role while introducing. She also spotted a few important points that should be taken care of while introduction.

 As the grammar should be equally accessible for the correction of English communication and language skills, in the third session of lecture Ms Aditi Goswami explained “Part of speech, Articles and determiners” to the students with a lot’s examples. Further she also explained the type of sentence.

As the students were introduced about reading and comprehension, Professional Introduction and grammar skills, now they should be acclimatized to input some good English word for professional skills like Group discussion, extempore and report writing which are integral part of corporate sector so they were detailed about it by Ms Vibha Gharvi. Further she spotted a few points which should be kept in mind in group discussion. She also explained how to start an extempore with examples. She also described various types of report writing to the student. After the session students feedback about the workshop was that it is very informative and interactive and such sessions should be held on a regular basis.
