Workshop on Management of Obesity through Yoga & Naturopathy

In continuation of its commitment to combating lifestyle disorders through natural and evidence-based approaches, the Maharishi Aurobindo Subharti College & Hospital of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences (MASCHNYS), under the Faculty of AYUSH, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), in association with Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN), Ministry of

AYUSH, Government of India, successfully organized a One-Day Workshop on “Management of Obesity through Yoga & Naturopathy.” The programme was conducted at MASCHNYS, Subharti Naturopathy & Yoga Hospital, Meerut.

The workshop was organized to raise awareness of the rising prevalence of obesity and to demonstrate effective, drugless management strategies through integrated Yoga and Naturopathy. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, interns, and health-conscious members of the community.

The academic session commenced with an expert lecture by Dr. Rahul Bansal, Professor and Advisor, Department of Community Medicine, SMC, SVSU, on the topic “Psychosocial Factors in Prevention and Control of Obesity.” He elaborated on the crucial role of behavioral patterns, stress, sleep, and social environment in the development of obesity and emphasized community-level preventive strategies and lifestyle modification for long-term control.

The second session was delivered by Dr. Navneet Bhardwaj, Assistant Professor and Ayurvedic Physician, on the topic “Holistic Approach to Manage Obesity.” He highlighted the Ayurvedic perspective of obesity (Sthoulya) and explained integrative management through diet regulation, daily regimen (Dinacharya), therapeutic procedures, and herbal support for sustainable weight management.

The programme was academically guided by Dr. Nair Dhiren Ajit, Officiating Dean and Principal, MASCHNYS, who emphasized the urgent need for lifestyle correction and adoption of nature-based therapies in the prevention and management of obesity. He reiterated that sustainable weight management requires a comprehensive approach addressing diet, physical activity, stress, and metabolic balance.

The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Suhas B, Assistant Professor, MASCHNYS, who also conducted a practical session on the application of Yoga and Naturopathy in obesity care. The programme included live demonstrations of selected yogic practices, pranayama techniques, and naturopathy modalities such as hydrotherapy and therapeutic massage. Participants were further educated on personalized diet planning and the concept of “Food as Medicine” for long-term weight control.

An interactive discussion session allowed participants to clarify doubts regarding obesity management, lifestyle modification, and home-based natural remedies. The workshop concluded with positive feedback from attendees, who appreciated the practical orientation and scientific approach of the programme.
