World Environment Day Celebration

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, organized a special programme dedicated to environmental conservation and biodiversity enhancement under the aegis of the University Environment Committee. The event conveyed a strong message of ecological responsibility through the release of birds into their natural habitat and the launch of a Plant Adoption Drive and BirdHouse Installation Drive.

The programme commenced with the presentation of a sapling to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Kumar Sharma, symbolizing the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The event witnessed the participation of Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Kumar Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Munish Reddy, Director Research Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goyal Bharti, Dean of Student Welfare Prof. Sartaj Ahmad, along with faculty members, officials, and students from various departments.

During the programme, student Chaitanya Chaprana shared his views on the importance of environmental conservation and highlighted the crucial role of youth in addressing contemporary environmental challenges. Thereafter, Prof. (Dr.) Mukesh Ruhela, Chairperson of the University Environment Committee, elaborated on the objectives and framework of the Plant Adoption Drive. He explained that the initiative has been launched under the inspiration of the University’s Chief Executive Officer with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint, increasing green cover, and promoting community responsibility toward sustainable development. He emphasized that meaningful solutions to environmental challenges can be achieved only when every individual takes responsibility for nurturing and protecting at least one plant.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Kumar Sharma stated that environmental conservation should not be confined to a single commemorative day but must become an integral part of our lifestyle and social responsibility. He urged all participants to play an active role in the conservation of water, air, and natural resources. He further remarked that maintaining harmony with nature is the foundation of a secure and sustainable future for humanity.

As part of the celebrations, a tree plantation drive was also conducted across the university campus to strengthen the institution’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

The programme was effectively coordinated by Dr. Preeti Singh, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sanchit Pradhan.

The event was successfully organized with the active support of all members of the University Environment Committee. Distinguished attendees included Prof. Pintu Mishra, Prof. Manoj Kapil, Registrar M. Yaqoob, Prof. Vineeta Nikhil, Prof. Dhirendra, Prof. Reena Bishnoi, Prof. (Dr.) Sokindra, Prof. Sudhir Tyagi, Prof. Ritesh, Prof. Jyoti Gaur, Prof. Anoj Raj, Prof. Lubhan Singh, Prof. Rupesh Pandey, and several other faculty members and university officials.

The World Environment Day programme emerged as a strong reflection of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University’s commitment to environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and the promotion of sustainable development. Through meaningful initiatives such as bird release, plant adoption, and tree plantation, the university reinforced the importance of collective action in protecting and preserving the natural environment.
