Swami Vevekanand University celebrates World Radio Day

Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (GSVSDJMC), Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, celebrated World Radio Day on 13 February 2026 with an insightful academic session on the global theme “Radio and Artificial Intelligence,” as designated by UNESCO. The event highlighted the evolving role of radio in the digital era and explored how artificial intelligence is reshaping broadcasting, production, and audience engagement.

The programme was organised under the direction of Prof. Ritesh Chaudhary, Head of the Department. The session featured distinguished speakers including Dr. Syed Zafar Hussain, Registrar; Prof. Ravindra Jain, Dean, Faculty of Science; and Prof. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Their addresses provided interdisciplinary perspectives on the convergence of media and technology, emphasising both opportunities and ethical responsibilities in AI-enabled communication.

Prof. Ritesh Chaudhary delivered welcome address. Spearker Dr. Syed Zafar Hussain reiterated the enduring relevance of radio as a democratic and accessible medium, especially in diverse societies. He underlined how artificial intelligence tools are transforming radio journalism—from automated content generation and voice synthesis to personalised programming and audience analytics—while Prof. Jain raised concerns related to authenticity, credibility, and employment in media professions. The interaction encouraged students to adopt emerging technologies responsibly and creatively in their future careers.

Convener of the program was Prof. R.P. Singh, Director, Subharti Media. The programme was smoothly conducted by Ms. Tarun Jain, who served as Master of Ceremony, while coordination was managed by Dr. Ashutosh Verma. Faculty members including Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam, Dr. Preeti Singh, and Ms. Shelly Sharma actively participated alongside students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Faculty of Science, making the session academically enriching and interdisciplinary in spirit.
