Guest Lecture on Partition of 1947 and the Idea of Akhand Bharat
Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized a special guest lecture on ‘The Partition of 1947 and the Idea of Akhand Bharat.’ The event aimed to help students understand the historical, cultural, and ideological dimensions associated with the Partition of India.
The keynote speaker for the lecture was eminent thinker and educationist Prof. (Dr.) Sadanand Damodar Sapre, who addressed the students and faculty members on the significance and consequences of the 1947 Partition. Devaraj Singh, Regional Coordinator of Pragya Pravah for Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and Avneesh Tyagi from Pragya Pravah Meerut were also present as distinguished guests.
In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Sadanand Damodar Sapre described the Partition of 1947 as one of the most painful events in Indian history. He stated that the Partition not only changed geographical boundaries but also deeply affected society, culture, and human relationships. He explained that the concept of Akhand Bharat is not limited merely to territorial unity; rather, it represents a broader vision based on shared cultural heritage, spiritual values, and civilizational unity. He encouraged students to study history carefully and learn from past events in order to strengthen national unity and social harmony.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) D.C. Saxena, Subharti University, highlighted that the Partition of 1947 was the outcome of complex political and social circumstances of that time. He emphasized that the study of history helps us understand how political decisions influence societies and future generations. Addressing journalism students, he advised them to analyze historical events with a balanced and objective perspective.
In his vote of thanks, Dr. Ritesh Chaudhary, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, said that such academic lectures are extremely valuable for students as they provide deeper insights into the relationship between history, politics, and society. He also stressed that journalism students must understand historical events with sensitivity and factual accuracy in order to present a responsible perspective before society.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion in which students asked questions and shared their views on the topic. The chief guest and other dignitaries were honored with plants, traditional shawls, and mementos. Priyanshi Bhatia, BAJMC student moderated the event, while media coverage was handled by Shaurya Khanna and Tushar Kumar. Dr. Prabhat Kumar Pandey, Coordinator, Academic Affairs, Dr. Mahavir Singh, Director of the Directorate of Distance Education; faculty members including Prof. Ashok Tyagi, Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam, Dr. Ashutosh Verma, Dr. Preeti Singh, Shaily Sharma, Ram Prakash Tiwari, and Dr. Pallabi Mukherjee graced the occasion, along with a large number of students from the department also attended.
