A workshop titled “From Idea to Ownership: Understanding Copyright and Its Process” was organized to create awareness among students and faculty members about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), particularly copyright. The session aimed to help participants understand how innovative ideas can be legally protected and converted into intellectual assets.
During the session, Dr. Singh elaborated on what copyright is and why it is important for creators, researchers, writers, artists, and media professionals. She explained that copyright is a legal right granted to the creator of original works such as literary writings, books, media content, music, films, photographs, and other creative expressions. This right allows the creator to control the use, reproduction, and distribution of their work. One of the key highlights of the workshop was the discussion on how an idea can be converted into ownership. Dr. Singh explained the process through which creative ideas can be documented, developed into original works, and then protected under copyright law. She also clarified the difference between an idea and its expression, emphasizing that copyright protects the expression of an idea rather than the idea itself.
To make the session more practical and informative, Dr. Singh presented examples of copyrighted works and explained how individuals and institutions can safeguard their intellectual creations. She also showed sample documents and application formats related to copyright registration, helping participants understand the procedural aspects involved in filing for copyright protection. The step-by-step process of applying for copyright, required documentation, and basic guidelines were explained in a simplified manner.
The workshop also included an interactive brainstorming session, where students actively participated and shared their creative ideas. Participants discussed potential projects, media content, research work, and innovative concepts that could be developed and protected through copyright. This interactive discussion encouraged students to think creatively and recognize the value of their intellectual contributions.
Prof. (Dr.) Ritesh Chaudhary, Head of Department motivated students and faculty members to take initiative in protecting their work and to move forward in the direction of Intellectual Property Rights.
Faculty members Prof. Ashok Tyagi, Dr. Santosh Km Gautam, Dr. Ashutosh Verma, Mr. Ram Prakash Tiwari, Ms. Shelly Sharma and Tarun Jain were present in the session along with all the students of the department.
