A National Conference on the theme “Media, Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development: A Multidisciplinary Approach” was organized by the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. The event was held at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium within the university campus. Scholars, researchers, and students from various universities and institutions participated enthusiastically in the conference.
The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a Saraswati Vandana presented by the students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The guests were warmly welcomed with saplings as a part of a green initiative, symbolizing environmental awareness.
The Chief Guest of the event was Ms. Vibha Singh, Vice Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi. In her address, she emphasized that media is a powerful tool for spreading awareness in society and plays a crucial role in strengthening social responsibility and cultural values.
The Guest of Honour and senior journalist Ms. Jayanti Ranganathan, Consulting Editor at Hindustan, shared her views, stating that the true strength of journalism lies in truthful writing and unbiased presentation. She encouraged students to practice journalism with truth, integrity, and fearlessness.
On this occasion, Mr. Abid Raza, Editor at the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Lucknow, highlighted the evolving nature of media. He remarked that in the era of digital and social media, ensuring factual accuracy and responsible reporting has become extremely important for journalists.
During the conference, Dr. Praveen Tiwari joined online and spoke about his recently showcased film “Godaan.” He noted that cinema and media play a significant role in presenting social realities and raising public awareness.
The conference was also graced by the presence of filmmaker and academician Amlan Ghosh, Captain Professor Lata Kumar, Professor (Dr.) Ajitabh (Former Director, RITM), and senior news anchor Surya Tripathi from Bharat Express.
The program was conducted under the guidance of the Head of the Department, Dr. Ritesh Chaudhary. Dr. Preeti Singh, was the Convener of the conference. Faculty members including Prof. Ashok Tyagi, Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam, Dr. Ashutosh Verma, Mr. Ram Prakash Tiwari, Ms. Shelly Sharma, Mr. Tarun Jain, along with teachers and students from various departments, were also present.
The conference concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ritesh Chaudhary. This was followed by a group photograph with all the distinguished guests, faculty members, and participants.
