Sustainable Campus: Promoting Responsible Consumption and Production

The department of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut organized a seminar titled “Sustainable Campus: Promoting Responsible Consumption and Production” on 07.04.2026. The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness among students and teachers about sustainable development, responsible consumption, and the balanced use of resources.

The event commenced with the welcome of the chief guest and other dignitaries. In his inaugural address, Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences emphasized that sustainable development should not remain limited to theoretical discussions but must become an integral part of daily life. He highlighted the role of universities in sensitizing students toward environmental responsibility.

On this occasion, the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. U.C. Sharma, Agra University, expressed his views by stating that small individual efforts are crucial for achieving the broader vision of a sustainable campus. He encouraged universities to develop their campuses as “green campuses” and to motivate students to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.

Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Coordinator, Academic Affairs, remarked that educational institutions should incorporate sustainable development principles into their curriculum and activities so that students can better understand their social and environmental responsibilities.

Dr. Ritesh Chaudhary, Head of the Department, Journalism and Mass Communication, highlighted the significant role of media in spreading awareness about sustainable development, noting that awareness is the first step toward meaningful change.

The seminar also included discussions on key issues such as environmental conservation, water and energy saving, waste management, and the development of green campuses.

The programme was attended by distinguished guests including Prof. Dr. U.C. Sharma, Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Dr. Ritesh Chaudhary, Mr. Madan Pal (Associate Professor, Shalig Ram Sharma PG College), along with faculty members such as Dr. Manoj Tripathi, Dr. Santosh Gautam, Dr. Sapna Sharma, Dr. Alpana, Mrs. Bhavana Joshi, and students and staff of the department. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sapna Sharma.

Overall, the seminar was successfully conducted and effectively achieved its objectives.
