Guest Lecture on “Domestic Arbitration” was organized by Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law (Faculty of Law) in Sardar Patel Auditorium on 31.03.2026 at 10.00 A.M. onwards. The objective of the programme was to enhance students’ understanding of arbitration as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism within the domestic legal framework. The event was organized under the guidance of Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Chandra, Director (Former Judge, High Court of Judicature at Allahabad), and Prof. (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi, Officiating Dean, Faculty of Law, S.V.S. University, Meerut.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr Afreen Almas, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, who briefly highlighted the importance of arbitration in reducing the burden on courts and ensuring speedy justice. The Guest speaker for the session was Adv. Saju Jakob, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, a distinguished expert in the field of arbitration and dispute resolution. The speaker elaborated on the concept, nature, and scope of domestic arbitration under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. Key aspects such as the arbitration agreement, appointment of arbitrators, jurisdiction of arbitral tribunals, and enforcement of arbitral awards were discussed in detail. The session also covered recent developments, amendments, and landmark judicial pronouncements that have strengthened the arbitration regime in India. Practical insights were shared regarding drafting arbitration clauses, procedural flexibility, and the role of institutions in promoting arbitration. The speaker emphasized the advantages of arbitration, including confidentiality, cost-effectiveness, and time efficiency, while also addressing certain challenges such as delays and enforcement issues. The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating in the question-and-answer segment. The speaker addressed various queries, providing clarity on complex legal issues related to domestic arbitration. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Prem Chandra, Faculty of Law expressing gratitude to the speaker for the enlightening session and to all participants for their active involvement. Overall, the lecture was proved to be highly informative and beneficial, enriching the participants’ knowledge and encouraging them to explore arbitration as a viable career and dispute resolution mechanism.
