“Together, let us nurture nature by saying No to Polybags.”
Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut, continues its strong commitment to environmental sustainability as the Eco Club – Nature Nurturers of Acharya Vishnu Gupt Subharti College of Management and Commerce (AVGSCMC), Faculty of Management & Commerce, successfully organized a three-day awareness drive from 7th to 9th April 2026.
The drive, titled “Say No to Polybags – Choose Reusable for a Greener SVSU Campus”, aimed to translate the University’s policy on the prohibition of single-use plastics into active practice by sensitizing the campus community about the harmful effects of polybags and promoting eco-friendly alternatives.
Under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Padma Misra, Dr. Sarika Abhay and Dr. Gaurab Kumar Sharma, 85 students from BBA and B.Com Second Year actively participated in the campaign. The activity also enabled the students to complete their mandatory 30 hours of field work as part of the SWAYAM course.
Key Highlights of the Drive
- Residential Complex: Sensitized 116 residents including faculty members, staff, and their family members.
- Academic Blocks: Visited and sensitized 13 academic blocks.
- Commercial Complex: Engaged 18 commercial units (shops, vendors, and canteens).
- Hostels: Covered all university hostels, sensitizing students residing in hostels as well as supporting staff.
The student volunteers were divided into three groups and interacted directly with stakeholders through polite dialogue, visual aids, and informative flyers. They highlighted the long-term environmental damage caused by polybags to soil, water, and wildlife, while encouraging the adoption of practical alternatives such as cloth bags, jute bags, and recycled-paper bags. Voluntary pledges were also collected from participants committing to a polybag-free campus.
Gratitude and Acknowledgement
The Eco Club – Nature Nurturers expresses sincere gratitude to the Respected Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, CEO, SVSU for motivating the students to take this initiative. Also extending thanks to Prof. (Dr.) Padma Misra, Officiating Dean, Faculty of Management & Commerce, Dr. Sarika, all participating students, and the campus authorities for their valuable support and guidance.
Way Forward
This successful awareness drive marks the beginning of sustained efforts by the Nature Nurturers Eco Club. Future plans include organizing workshops on making cloth bags from waste materials, follow-up sensitization sessions, and cleanliness drives to reinforce the message of environmental stewardship.
The University community is encouraged to actively support this movement by carrying their own reusable bags and saying No to Polybags.
