The Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut organized an alumni lecture on the theme “Beyond the Library Walls: Opportunities for LIS Professionals” On 02.05.2026. The primary objective of the program was to create awareness among students and research scholars about emerging career opportunities in the field of Library and Information Science beyond its traditional boundaries. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Gunjan Jain, alumni of the department and currently serving as Assistant Librarian at the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi. The session commenced with a formal welcome and introduction by Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences who highlighted the importance of alumni lectures as a source of inspiration for students.
In her address, Dr. Gunjan Jain emphasized that in the digital and technological era, opportunities for LIS professionals extend beyond traditional libraries into areas such as data management, knowledge organization, digital archiving, research support services, publishing, and the corporate sector. She encouraged students to adopt emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and data analytics, and stressed the importance of continuous learning, networking, and professional skill development.
During the program, students actively participated by asking questions, which were answered comprehensively by the keynote speaker. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sapna Sharma, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Gunjan Jain and remarked that such alumni lectures are helpful in providing career guidance to students. The program was attended by faculty members including Dr. Javed Khan, Dr. Sapna Sharma, Dr. Alpana, and Mrs. Bhavna, along with students and staff. The overall outcome of the program was highly positive, as it provided valuable insights, enhanced student engagement, and successfully guided participants toward broader career perspectives in the LIS field.
