Korean Restaurant Simulation Skit

On 19-20 March 2026, The Department of Languages, Rahul Sankrityayan  Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Swami Vivekananda Subharti University in collaboration with Indo-Korea Business Culture and Center (IKBCC) , organized a performative learning session for Korean language students under the guidance of Mr. Ayush Priyam & supervision  of  Dr. Rafat Khanam ,  Associate Professor of English and In-charge of English & Foreign languages and leadership of  Dr. Seema Sharma ,Head of the Department of Languages. The activity aimed to provide students with practical exposure to real life Korean communication through role-play and interactive learning. The programme was conducted in two phases: on 19h March, 2026, students prepared scripts and practiced polite dining expression and conversational Korean , while on 20th March ,a live Korean Restaurant Simulation Skit was performed followed by interactive feedback and discussion sessions to enhance students’ fluency ,confidence and cultural understanding.

The activity provided students with practical exposure to real-life Korean communication through role-play.

Objectives

  • To connect textbook learning with real-life communication through live role-play.
  • To practice Jondaemal (honorifics) in realistic social situations.
  • To develop restaurant and service-industry vocabulary.
  • To improve confidence in speaking Korean publicly.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students gained confidence and improved sentence fluency through performance-based learning.
  • The activity reduced hesitation in speaking a foreign language.
  • Participants developed a better understanding of Korean cultural etiquette and polite communication.

Korean Students Ishika, Vanshika, Aarav  performed different roles, including a Korean Restaurant owner,  Korean Customer and Indian customer, to recreate a realistic  restaurant environment. The simulation encouraged students to use conversational Korean in practical situations while  applying appropriate level of politeness  and honorific expression according to the social context.

Through interactive role-play , participants practiced ordering food, responding to customer requests, and managing everyday conversations commonly used in restaurant settings. The activity also strengthened students’ understanding of Korean cultural etiquettes and improved their confidence, fluency and communication skills through experiential learning.

 The session concluded with words of appreciation and encouragement  from the faculty members ,who praised the students for their creativity ,confidence, team-work and active involvement .The students also expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn Korean through such an interactive and enjoyable experience.a
