Subharti Institute of Law Organized Alumni Lecture
On
“Developing a Growth Mindset in a Competitive Environment”
The Alumni Lecture on “Developing a Growth Mindset in a Competitive Environment” was organized by Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law with the objective of guiding students on cultivating the right mental approach towards academic and professional competition. The session aimed to help students understand how a growth-oriented outlook can transform challenges and setbacks into opportunities for learning and self-improvement.
The session commenced with a formal introduction of the guest speaker by Mr. Anurag Choudhary, Assistant Professor and Member, Alumni Trust. He briefly highlighted Mr. Mukul Kumar’s academic journey as an alumnus of the institute and his recent achievements in qualifying CUET PG 2025 and UGC-NET (December 2025).
After the introduction, Mr. Mukul Kumar began his lecture by explaining the fundamental distinction between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset, drawing upon his own academic and competitive examination journey. He emphasized that a growth mindset enables individuals to view failures and setbacks not as permanent limitations but as stepping stones towards improvement and eventual mastery.
The speaker shared practical insights from his own preparation for CUET PG and UGC-NET, highlighting the role of disciplined study schedules, consistency, self-assessment, and adaptability in achieving success in highly competitive examinations. He encouraged students to set realistic short-term goals, track their progress, and remain persistent despite repeated setbacks.
Mr. Kumar also discussed the importance of measuring one’s progress against one’s own past performance rather than against peers, managing examination-related stress and anxiety, and surrounding oneself with a supportive and motivated peer group. He stressed that a competitive environment, when approached with the right mindset, becomes a source of motivation rather than discouragement.
The lecture was highly interactive, with students actively participating and posing questions related to time management, handling failure, balancing academics with competitive examination preparation, and building long-term career resilience. Mr. Mukul Kumar addressed all queries with practical examples drawn from his own experience, making the session relatable, motivating, and engaging for the students.
The organizers expressed sincere gratitude to our Hon’ble Director, Justice Rajesh Chandra (Former Justice Allahabad High Court), for his constant guidance and motivation in promoting practical and career-oriented legal education among students. Appreciation was also extended to Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi, for her continuous encouragement and academic support in organizing such meaningful alumni interactions.
The session concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Anurag Choudhary, Assistant Professor and Member, Alumni Trust, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the speaker for sharing valuable insights and thanked all participants for their active involvement, making the session informative, motivating, and enriching.
