Level Skill Development Program under English Literary Week–2026

The third day of the University-Level Skill Development Programme under English Literary Week–2026 featured an intellectually stimulating Quiz Competition on Indian English Writers and Their Writings, organized by the Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. The competition aimed to encourage literary awareness, critical thinking, and academic excellence while fostering students’ appreciation of the rich heritage of Indian English literature.

The programme commenced with a formal welcome, followed by the University’s traditional sapling presentation ceremony to the Judge of the day, Dr. Amrita Chaudhary, Assistant Professor, Department of Liberal Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. Upholding the University’s eco-conscious tradition of honouring distinguished guests, the sapling was presented by Dr. Seema Sharma, Head, Department of Languages, and Dr. Rafat Khanam, Programme Convenor and In-charge, English and Foreign Languages, as a token of gratitude and respect.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Rafat Khanam, Programme Convenor and In-charge of English and Foreign Languages, highlighted the significance of Indian English literature in shaping cultural understanding, critical thinking, and linguistic competence. She encouraged students to cultivate a habit of reading literary works beyond the classroom and emphasized that literary knowledge enhances communication, analytical ability, and intellectual growth.
The Quiz Competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing various faculties and academic programmes across the University. Participants demonstrated remarkable knowledge of eminent Indian English writers, their literary works, themes, characters, literary movements, and contributions to English literature. The competition created an atmosphere of healthy academic competition, encouraging students to think critically and respond confidently.
After a rigorous and impartial evaluation by the judge, the following students emerged as winners:

  • Second Position-Mrinal Raj – B.N.Y.S., I Year
  • Third Position-Lakshaya Raj – B.N.Y.S., I Year

The winners were appreciated for their excellent literary knowledge, prompt responses, analytical thinking, and confident participation. Their outstanding performances reflected dedicated preparation and a genuine interest in Indian English literature.

Objectives of the Event

1. To promote awareness and appreciation of Indian English writers and their literary contributions.
2. To strengthen students’ literary knowledge, critical thinking, and analytical abilities through an interactive academic platform.
3. To encourage reading habits and intellectual curiosity among students.
4. To provide opportunities for interdisciplinary participation and healthy academic competition.
5. To enhance students’ confidence, communication skills, and literary understanding beyond the classroom.

Outcomes of Event

1. Students demonstrated enhanced knowledge of Indian English writers and their literary works.
2. The competition strengthened critical thinking, literary interpretation, memory, and analytical skills.
3. Participants developed greater confidence in academic competitions and literary discussions.
4. The event encouraged students to explore Indian English literature and cultivate lifelong reading habits.
5. The competition promoted interdisciplinary interaction while fostering communication skills, confidence, and intellectual engagement among students.
The programme was smoothly conducted by the student coordinators, ensuring an engaging and disciplined academic environment throughout the competition.
The event was evaluated by Dr. Amrita Chaudhary, Assistant Professor, Department of Liberal Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, who served as the Judge for the competition. The programme was graced by the presence of Dr. Amrita Chaudhary, Assistant Professor, Department of Liberal Arts and Humanities who attended the event as the Chief Guest.
The occasion was further enriched by the gracious presence of Dr. Seema Sharma, Head, Department of Languages; Dr. Rafat Khanam, Programme Convenor and In-charge, English and Foreign Languages; Ms. Bhavana Joshi; Ms. Soni Chauhan; Dr. Ranveer Singh; Dr. Anchal Sharma; Mr. Ankit Kumar; Dr. Juli; Dr. Ruby; and Ms. Sanya Agrawal, along with students from various faculties and departments of the University. Their encouragement and academic support significantly contributed to the success of the competition and motivated the participants throughout the event.
