The programme began with Dr. Manju Adhikari, Head of the Department of Physical Education, formally welcoming the distinguished guests, resource person, and participating faculty members, setting a warm and academically enriching tone for the session. Following the welcome address, Dr. Pintu Misra, Dean, Faculty of Education, felicitated the resource person, Prof. (Dr.) Omnarayan Tiwari, Dean, School of Yogic Science & Naturopathy, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dehradun, by honouring him with a traditional patka, a floral bouquet, and a memento, a gesture symbolizing the university’s respect and gratitude toward his scholarly contribution to the field of Yoga Science. Following this ceremonial welcome, the session was formally handed over to the resource person to begin his address.
Prof. Tiwari delivered an insightful and thought-provoking session that explored the deep-rooted connection between Yoga and holistic personality development. Drawing upon his extensive academic and research background spanning over two decades, he elaborated on how yogic practices, including asanas, pranayama, and meditation techniques such as Transcendental Meditation (TM®), contribute not merely to physical fitness but to the cultivation of emotional stability, mental clarity, ethical grounding, and self-awareness among individuals. He discussed the integration of Yoga with Ayurveda as a complementary framework for achieving balanced well-being, emphasizing how ancient Indian knowledge systems offer practical, science-backed solutions to modern-day stress, anxiety, and lifestyle disorders prevalent among students and educators alike. The session further touched upon the role of yoga in enhancing concentration, decision-making, interpersonal skills, and leadership qualities, all essential components of personality development in an academic and professional environment. Prof. Tiwari also shared reflections from his experience as a Member (Yoga Expert) of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for the International Day of Yoga (IDY), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, offering participants a broader national perspective on how yoga is being institutionalized and mainstreamed within educational and policy frameworks.
The programme was thoughtfully aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, reinforcing the university’s commitment to global educational and wellness standards, including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) through its focus on yoga-based physical and mental wellness practices, SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing faculty capacity and pedagogical understanding of holistic personality development, SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by promoting inclusive wellness practices accessible to all faculty members regardless of gender, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through inter-institutional academic collaboration between SVSU and Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dehradun.
