The Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication organized an Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme with the objective of creating awareness among students about the harmful effects of ragging and promoting a safe, respectful, inclusive, and supportive academic environment. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Ritesh Chaudhary, Head of the Department, with Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam as the Speaker and Dr. Ashutosh Verma as the Coordinator.

The programme focused on sensitizing students to the physical, psychological, emotional, and academic consequences that victims of ragging may experience. Students were made aware that ragging is not a form of entertainment, interaction, or initiation, but a serious form of misconduct that can adversely affect the dignity, safety, mental well-being, and academic life of fellow students.

During the programme, Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam elaborated on the importance of maintaining a ragging-free campus and encouraged students to adopt responsible and respectful behaviour towards their peers. Students were informed about the rules and regulations prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the institution for the prevention and prohibition of ragging. The participants were also briefed about the legal and disciplinary consequences of involvement in ragging, including strict action against individuals found responsible.

The programme emphasized the significance of discipline, equality, empathy, cooperation, and mutual respect in developing a healthy campus culture. Students were encouraged to welcome new students in a friendly and supportive manner and to build positive relationships with their peers. They were also informed about the appropriate institutional mechanisms and channels available for reporting incidents or suspected cases of ragging and were encouraged to seek assistance without fear or hesitation.

The session included interactive discussions and awareness messages, which helped students understand the seriousness of ragging and reinforced the principle of zero tolerance towards ragging. The programme concluded with a collective commitment by students and faculty members to prevent ragging and contribute towards maintaining a peaceful, safe, and supportive learning environment.

Overall, the Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme successfully enhanced students’ understanding of the adverse consequences of ragging and encouraged them to uphold the values of discipline, respect, equality, dignity, and responsible citizenship within the institution.
