Students of the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University got a firsthand glimpse into the dynamic world of event management during an engaging alumni talk by Mr. Arpit, Event Manager at WOW Events in Gurugram.
A proud passout of the BAJMC (Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication) 2022-25 batch from the same department, Mr. Arpit shared practical insights, challenges, and growth opportunities in the industry. Addressing an enthusiastic audience of over 100 students, he highlighted how skills from JMC—like storytelling, media coordination, and public relations—seamlessly translate to event planning.
“Event management is all about creating unforgettable experiences, much like crafting a compelling news story,” Mr. Arpit said. “From my Subharti days, I learned the power of communication, which now helps me manage corporate gigs, weddings, and festivals at WOW Events. Entry-level roles start at ₹25,000-35,000 monthly, but with hustle, you can scale to six figures in 2-3 years.”
The session covered essentials like budgeting, vendor coordination, crisis handling, and leveraging digital tools for promotion. Mr. Arpit emphasized networking via LinkedIn and internships as key to breaking in, drawing from his own journey of graduation. Sharing his experiences of organising events in the department like the acclaimed two days’ media fest “BAHIRANG” of Subharti university, he said “Subharti’s practical training gave me an edge; don’t just study—execute small events on campus, as we did because it helps in gaining the on-hand training of event management.”
Mr. Ram Prakash Tiwari, Faculty Coordinator-Alumni Cell, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication who organized the talk, praised Mr. Arpit’s return. “Such alumni interactions bridge academia and industry, equipping our students for real-world success,” he noted.
The event wrapped with a lively Q&A, where students queried trends like sustainable events and virtual hybrids. It underscored Subharti’s commitment to alumni engagement and career readiness in media-adjacent fields. From the Faculties of the department Dr. Santosh Kumar Gautam, Dr. Preeti Singh , Mrs. Shelly Sharma, Mr. Tarun Jain with students like Tushar, Anushka Singh, Jaanvi Kaur, Ayushi Sharma, Kashish, Harsh Saini, Aditi Nehra etc. were present.
