Alumni Lecture on “How to Approach Answer Writing in Law Examinations” was organized by Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law
The Alumni Lecture on “How to Approach Answer Writing in Law Examinations” was organized by Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, with the objective of equipping law students with a structured and effective approach to answer writing. The session aimed to help students understand how a well-organized, issue-based and analytically sound answer can significantly improve their performance in law examinations.
The session commenced with a welcome address and a formal introduction of the guest speaker by Mr. Anurag Choudhary, Assistant Professor and Member, Alumni Trust. He briefly highlighted Ms. Ankita Singh’s academic journey as a Gold Medalist of the B.A. LL.B. programme of the institute, her LL.M. from National Law University, Delhi, her present role as Legal Executive / Executive Trainee (Law) at SJVN Limited, and her distinction as Best Team and Best Mooter at the Sardar Patel Subharti Moot Court Competition, 2025.
After the introduction, Ms. Ankita Singh began her lecture by explaining the importance of understanding what a law examination question demands, and how a clear structure, from introduction to conclusion, helps an examiner follow and reward the answer. Drawing upon her own academic journey at Subharti University and National Law University, Delhi, she emphasized that examination success depends not merely on knowledge of the law but on the manner in which that knowledge is organized and presented.
The speaker discussed how to identify the legal issue in a question, state the relevant law, support it with statutory provisions and case law, apply it to the facts, and arrive at a reasoned conclusion. She stressed the importance of presenting legal analysis rather than mere description, and of using headings, sub-headings and illustrations judiciously to make answers more effective.
Ms. Singh also dwelt upon improving clarity and flow, including coherent paragraphing, precise legal language, logical sequencing of arguments, effective time management during the examination, and regular answer-writing practice. She encouraged students to adopt these techniques consistently in order to improve the quality of their answers and score higher marks.
The lecture concluded with an interactive question and answer session in which students actively participated and posed questions relating to structuring answers, citing case law, managing time in the examination hall, and presenting arguments effectively. Ms. Ankita Singh addressed all queries with practical examples drawn from her own experience, making the session relatable, motivating, and engaging for the students.
The organizers expressed sincere gratitude to our Hon’ble Director, Justice Rajesh Chandra (Former Justice Allahabad High Court), for his constant guidance and motivation in promoting practical and career-oriented legal education among students. Appreciation was also extended to Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi, for her continuous encouragement and academic support in organizing such meaningful alumni interactions.
The session concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Anurag Choudhary, Assistant Professor and Member, Alumni Trust, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Ankita Singh for sharing valuable insights and thanked all participants for their active involvement, making the session informative, practical, and enriching.
