Awareness Campaign For Eliminating Gender Based Violence
Internal Complaint Committee(ICC), Swami Viveknand Subharti University organized Awareness Campaign on Elimination of Gender Based Violence from 25/11/24 to 10/12/24 as per the UGC letter dated 22/11/24 and during this period awareness session has been conducted by ICC members . It was an initiative of 16 days of activism concluded on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (10 December). Awareness session on the topics Sexual harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, Role of ICC in HEIs, Gender Equality, Role and responsibilities of ICC, Domestic Violence Act, POCSO Act, has been successfully conducted by the ICC members by both online and offline mode through ICT tools in hostels, hospital and all the colleges of university and sensitize the students, teaching and non-teaching staff during the period. Awareness quiz on Prevention of Sexual Harassment was also conducted through Google form among the Teaching Non-Teaching, students and all were actively participated.
On the concluding day i.e, 10/12/22, a national seminar was organized by Internal Complaints Committee,SVSU,in association with Subharti Law College and District Legal Services Authority, District Court, Meerut in the Sardar Patel Auditorium of Swami Vivekananda Subharti University on the occasion of International Human Rights Day . The theme of the national seminar was “Role of Higher Educational Institutions in Eliminating Gender-Based Violence: Challenges & Perspective”. The program was inaugurated with lamp lightening by the Chief Guest Dr. Meenakshi Bharala, Member, State Women Commission Uttar Pradesh, Sh. Udayveer Singh ,ADJ and Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Meerut, Prof.(Dr.) Shalya Raj Chief Executive Officer SVSU, Prof.(Dr.)Devendra Swaroop Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof.(Dr.) Pradeep Raghav Dean Student Welfare, Prof.(Dr.)Vaibhav Goyal Bhartiya Dean Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law and Program Coordinator Prof.(Dr.) Reena Bishnoi, Presiding Officer, Internal Complaint Committee .
Dr. Reena Bishnoi, Presiding Officer , ICC. Internal Complaint Committee, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University welcome all the dignitaries, HOIs, faculties, students and non-teaching staff and highlighted the objectives of the programme. Chief Guest of the seminar, Dr. Meenakshi Bharala, Member of State Women Commission, Uttar Pradesh, said that awareness about one’s rights will be achieved through education. She said that educational institutions have an important role in the progress of the society, but every person of the society will have to come forward to fulfill their responsibilities. She addressed that girls should become self-confident by being aware of their rights. She told about the women’s helpline 1090 that any woman can call the number 1090 and complain about exploitation or any problem against her. In this, the identity of the person making the complaint is kept confidential and help is provided immediately.
Sh.Udayveer Singh ADJ and Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Meerut, said that the right to live a dignified life is the human right. He said that gender based violence starts from the family itself. In which cases like husband-wife dispute, discrimination between boys and girls in the family, feticide etc. promote gender-based violence. Due to all these reasons our social structure is weakening. To solve this, social inequality will have to be removed along with awareness.He appreciated the 16-day awareness campaign for elimination of gender-based violence conducted by the Internal Complaints Committee of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University.
Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Devendra Swaroop and Dean Student Welfare Committee Dr. Pradeep Raghav informed everyone about the work being done for gender equality in the university.
Dr. Vaibhav Goyal Bhartiya, Dean Dean Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law in his concluding remark said that human rights and gender equality will be established in the society through education along with awareness and implementation of one’s responsibilities in the spirit of morality.He also pay vote of thanks. Ms.Anna Sisodia, Assistant Professor administered the oath of human rights to everyone. Anchoring is done by Ms.Zoya Rao student of BALLB. A large number of teaching, non teaching and students of the university attended the program. Program was ended by the recitation of National Anthem
