Awareness Drive for Water Conservation organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication
The University Environment Committee of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, in collaboration with the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, organized an awareness drive to sensitize the rural community about water conservation. During this drive, students from the department visited Rardhana village in the Sardhana region of Meerut.
While flagging off the awareness team from the university campus, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Prof. (Dr.) Ritesh Chaudhary said that Swami Vivekanand Subharti University has always strived to provide not only theoretical knowledge to its students but also to connect them with society by imparting practical and experiential learning. In this context, the joint initiative of the University Environment Committee and the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication has been organized as part of this awareness drive. On behalf of the department, Dr. Chaudhary expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Shalya Raj, and Chairman of the University Environment Committee Dr. Mukesh Ruhela, for selecting the department for this noble cause and for their constant guidance and encouragement in making the awareness drive successful. He further extended his best wishes to the students, saying that their dedicated efforts would surely help spread awareness among the rural population about the importance of water conservation and management.
During the visit, the students interacted with villagers and discussed the significance of water, its limited availability, and the need to conserve it for future generations. The students informed the villagers about rainwater harvesting, ways to prevent water wastage in kitchens and fields, and methods of water reuse. They also emphasized that conserving water today is essential for securing the future of the coming generations. The students also met the Gram Pradhan, Mr. Bablu Pradhan, and discussed the ongoing water-related schemes and challenges in the village.
Appreciating the efforts of the students of Subharti University’s Journalism Department, Gram Pradhan Bablu said that the initiative taken by the students is truly commendable. He stated that their visit to the village and their door-to-door awareness efforts on such a crucial topic as water conservation and management is a noble gesture. On behalf of all the villagers, he expressed gratitude to the students and faculty members for choosing their village for this awareness drive.
Dr. Preeti Singh, coordinator of the activity, stated that through this outreach activity, the students not only communicated with the rural community but also gained firsthand experience of social responsibility. They also understood the practical aspects of water conservation and environmental protection. She added that such activities connect students with society and motivate them to work on public-interest issues alongside learning real-world journalism. During the drive, the students raised the slogan “Save Water, Secure the Future” and pledged to continue participating in such initiatives to promote environmental awareness in society.
A total of 23 students participated in this outreach activity. Assistant Professors Dr. Preeti Singh, Dr. Ashutosh Verma, and Tarun Jain were also present.
