The Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut , organized the celebration of Basant Panchami on 23.01.2026 with great enthusiasm and academic spirit. The programme was conducted to promote the values of knowledge, learning, and cultural heritage among students and faculty members.

The primary objective of celebrating Basant Panchami was to instill a sense of reverence for knowledge, education, and continuous learning among students. The programme aimed to strengthen student’s intellectual curiosity, ethical values, creativity, and discipline by drawing inspiration from Indian cultural traditions. Another important objective was to sensitize students to the interrelationship between education, culture, and information literacy.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp before the idol of Goddess Saraswati by Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences marking the formal inauguration of the event. In his inaugural address, Dr. Sudhir Tyagi highlighted that Basant Panchami is not merely a symbol of seasonal change but a significant occasion representing knowledge, learning, research, and creativity. He emphasized the relevance of this festival for students, encouraging them to adopt lifelong learning, innovation, and information literacy as integral components of their academic and professional lives.

Students actively participated in the programme by presenting Saraswati Vandana, which added a devotional and cultural dimension to the event. The presence of faculty members and staff created an environment of collective learning and academic harmony.

The Basant Panchami celebration concluded on a positive and inspiring note, leaving a lasting impact on students and participants. The active involvement of faculty members, including Dr. Javed Khan, Dr. Sapna Sharma, Mrs. Bhavana Joshi, and supporting staff, ensured the smooth and successful organization of the programme. The event reaffirmed the university’s commitment to holistic education by integrating academic excellence with cultural and ethical values. Overall, the event contributed to the intellectual enrichment, cultural awareness, and academic engagement of the students.
