Rahul Sankrityayan Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages, FASS, Swami Vivekananda Subharti University, celebrated Bastille Day (French National Day) on July 15, 2025, with great enthusiasm and cultural fervor. The event, titled “Fete Nationale”, was organized under the MoU by the Department of Languages in collaboration with Le Frehindi, an organization that promotes French language and cultural exchange.
Objectives
- To promote intercultural awareness and appreciation of French culture.
- To provide students with experiential learning through fun and engaging activities.
- To encourage multilingual and global perspectives among students and faculty.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty members. It added authenticity and depth to the cultural engagement, making the event both informative and entertaining. Under the guidance of French trainer Ms. Jyoti Yadav, the event was hosted by French Level A-1 student Harleen Kaur, who addressed the gathering and provided the historical background and significance of the Bastille Day. Students of French Certificate Course decorated the department with French Flags and colorful balloons to represent the French culture and tradition. The faculty members also participated in a fun filled game of Bingo, led by French course student Charu Bisht. The top three winners of the game were then presented with gifts. Asif presented beautiful Thank You cards to the faculty members. Milan Mann provided some insights regarding the French culture. Sakshi recited a poem in the French language. Following this all the faculty members and the students gathered for the cake cutting ceremony. The Head of the Department Dr. Seema Sharma emphasized the importance of languages in today’s age and congratulated the students on the successful organization of the event. Dr.Rafat Khanam, In-Charge of English and Foreign Languages expressed thanks and appreciation to French trainer Ms. Jyoti Yadav and the students for organizing the event. She also distributed books among the students and gave her best wishes to the students for their future. During the program Dr. Seema Sharma, Prof. Rajeswar, Dr. Rafat, Dr. Ashish, Dr. Preeti, Dr. Nishi, Dr. Ranveer, Mr. Abhijeet, Ms. Sanya, Ms. Swati and French students Milan Mann, Sakshi Dhull, Harleen Kaur, Charu Bisht, Asif, Suhail, Deepak were present.
Highlights of the Celebration
- The event commenced at 12:00 PM with a welcoming address by faculty members of the Department of Languages.
- Students and teachers came dressed in blue, white, and red to show their French spirit, reflecting the colors of the French flag.
- A series of activities were held throughout the event, including:
- History and Culture presentations highlighting the significance of Bastille Day.
- Games inspired by French traditions and culture.
- Music and Dance performances celebrating French artistic expression.
- Handmade Thank you Cards given to faculty by students
- A joyful Cake Cutting ceremony marked the conclusion of the celebrations.
The Bastille Day celebration was a vibrant, educative, and memorable experience for all. It successfully fostered cross-cultural appreciation and showcased the university’s commitment to global learning. The Department of Languages looks forward to organizing more such enriching events in the future.
