Debate Competition (First Phase)
The Literary Club of Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law organized the first phase of the debate competition under the patronage of Akhil Bharatiya Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Smriti Samiti, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of birth centenary of Late Smt. Kamla Bahuguna, on 19th October 2024. The Competition was focused on the thought-provoking topic “Can Reservation for Women in India Truly Achieve Gender Equality?” The event brought together intellectual minds and provided a vibrant platform for students to discuss and debate the merits and challenges of women’s reservation in India.
The event was graced by an esteemed panel of speakers, including chief guest of the event, Hon’ble Prof. (Dr.) Rita Bahuguna, Former Cabinet Minister and National President of Akhil Bharatiya Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Smriti Samiti, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh, who shared her insightful views on the history and significance of women’s reservation policies, importance of education and encouraged the students to be independent and bold. Maj Gen. (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal, SM (Retd.), Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SVSU, emphasized the role of educational institutions in fostering gender equality and blessed the students with his words of wisdom. Dr. Shalya Raj, Hon’ble CEO of SVSU, provided an inspiring address, encouraging students to explore innovative solutions to bridge the gender gap in Indian society. Other distinguished guests included Shri Rajendra Sharma, Former MLA, who enriched the discussion with their diverse perspectives on policy and law.
Hon’ble Judge of the event, Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Thaledi, Head of the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, SVSU, enriched the audience and participants with his important feedback. Prof. (Dr.) Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, Dean of the Faculty of Law, SVSU, congratulated the students for being brave enough to compete on a thought provoking and contemporary topic.
The event culminated with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Ana Sisodia, Convenor of the Debate Competition, who expressed her gratitude to the speakers, participants, and attendees for making the event a resounding success.
There were a total of 94 speakers from various colleges of the event speaking for and against the motion. And a total of 209 participants witnessed the event apart from the authorities present. Mr. Ashish Sirohi, Mr. Mahipal, Mr. Anuj from the non-teaching department equally contributed to make the event fruitful.
The first phase of this competition set the stage for a dynamic exchange of ideas on a pressing issue, contributing to the ongoing dialogue on gender equality in India. The first Position holder of the
event will be taking part in the National rounds of the Debate competition, to be organized in the month of November.
Results and Awards: The judges of the debate competition were:

- Dr. Manisha Luthra, Department of Language, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. The results of the competition were announced by the convenor of the Debate Competition, Ms. Ana Sisodia. The Winners are as follows:

Outcome of the Activity:
- Participants gained deeper insights into the complexities of gender equality and the role of reservation policies in India.
- The competition provided a platform for students to hone their advocacy, public speaking, and analytical skills.
- The diversity of thought fostered an environment conducive to creative policy suggestions aimed at advancing gender justice and equality in India.
