E-Waste Collection Drive
Organized by University Environmental Committee
on May 7, 2025

The University Environmental Committee organized a highly impactful e-waste collection drive on May 7, 2025, in Subhartipuram, with the aim of promoting environmental sustainability and responsible e-waste management. The event saw the active participation of 51 dedicated volunteers from various colleges and student councils of the university. These volunteers played a vital role not only in collecting electronic waste but also in raising awareness among the residents and campus community about the growing concerns surrounding e-waste and its environmental hazards.

The event began on a motivating note with inspirational words delivered by the Honorable Vice Chancellor, SVSU. Maj Gen (Dr.) G.K. Thapliyal, who emphasized the importance of youth involvement in environmental protection. He encouraged all students to act as change-makers and take collective responsibility for ensuring a cleaner and greener future through informed and sustainable actions.

To ensure comprehensive coverage of the campus and surrounding areas, the volunteers were systematically divided into six teams, with each team being assigned a specific location within Subhartipuram. This strategic planning facilitated an organized and efficient collection process while maximizing outreach to residents and passersby. The six locations covered during the drive were Mahaveer Bhawan (M-Block), Shradhanand Bhawan (X-Block), Narayan Guru Bhawan (Y-Block), R-Block, Yogi Bhawan, and Ambedkar Bhawan. Each team operated under the guidance of a faculty coordinator who ensured smooth execution and guided student efforts effectively. The coordinators for the event were Dr. Sanchit Pradhan, Dr. Sweta Bhardwaj, Er. K.K. Sharma, Dr. Gaurabh Sharma, Dr. Amit Kumar, and Dr. Jyoti Madhur. These coordinators not only supervised the collection process but also played an essential role in educating people about the significance of safe e-waste disposal and encouraging environmentally responsible behavior among students and staff.

Throughout the day, the volunteers worked diligently to collect unused, outdated, or broken electronic items. The emphasis was not only on collecting e-waste but also on sensitizing individuals about its long-term environmental effects if not disposed of properly.. This comprehensive approach helped engage a wider audience and instilled a greater sense of environmental responsibility in the campus community.

The overall coordination of the event was handled by Dr. Mukesh Ruhela, Chairman University Environment Committee and Mr. Harshvardhan Kaushik, Administrative officer, SVSU,.

The University Environmental Committee expressed gratitude to all participants and coordinators for their enthusiastic involvement and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing such green initiatives. As the event came to an end, both students and faculty  members  acknowledged the vital role that each person plays in protecting the environment by taking simple but significant steps like properly disposing of e-waste.
