As part of the ongoing week-long celebration on the occasion of the 11th National Handloom Day, the Department of Fashion and Textile Design organized a grand Exhibition-Cum-Sale of Handloom Products to honour and promote India’s rich handloom legacy. After a successful four-day workshop on handloom techniques and a drawing competition held on the fifth day, the sixth day was marked by the much-awaited exhibition, which received widespread appreciation from dignitaries, faculty, students, and visitors alike. The exhibition will also continue on the seventh day, allowing for greater engagement with handloom crafts.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, Chief Executive Officer of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, in the esteemed presence of Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra, Dean and Principal of Nandlal Bose Subharti College of Fine Arts and Fashion Design. Also gracing the occasion were Colonel Rajesh Tyagi, Director of Subharti Defence Academy, and Colonel Aseem Kukreja, Chief Security Officer of the University, whose presence added great value to the event. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Sharma, extended his best wishes and blessings to the department and students for organizing such a meaningful and enriching celebration.

Dr. Neha Singh, Head of the Department of Fashion and Textile Design, emphasized the educational value of the event, stating that students benefited greatly from direct interaction with artisans and firsthand exposure to traditional handloom techniques. She highlighted the wide array of showcased textiles, celebrated for their diverse materials and innovative designs.

The dignitaries and faculty members from various departments encouraged the students and artisans to continue preserving and promoting India’s rich textile and craft traditions. The event also featured live demonstrations of heritage crafts such as block printing, tie and dye, and hand painting, allowing attendees to witness the intricate artistry behind each technique.

A key highlight of the event was the formal unveiling of the textbook, titled “The Future of Fashion: Innovations and Trends Shaping the Industry.” The book is a collaborative work by Dr. Neha Singh, Dr. Pooja, Dr. Rashika Kashyap, and Ms. Nidhi Yadav, offering scholarly insights into contemporary developments in the global fashion industry.

The exhibition not only provided students with a platform to exhibit and sell their handloom-based creations but also served as a bridge between traditional artisans and aspiring designers, encouraging cultural exchange and creative collaborations.

The department extends heartfelt thanks to faculty members Ms. Shradha Yadav, Dr. Arpana Kamboj, Dr. Rashika Kashyap, Ms. Shailja Sindhay, Ms. Anisha Anand, Dr. Surabhi Das, Ms. Abhilasha, Ms. Monika, Ms. Shabnum Shabir, and Mr. Raghavendra Mohan Pathak for their unwavering support in organizing the event.
