“Career opportunities in Public Relations”

A guest lecture was organized on the topic “Career opportunities in Public Relations” in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. In this lecture, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Rayal, Director, School of Media Studies, Uttarakhand Open University, Haldwani (Nainital) was present as the keynote speaker.

 Addressing the students, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Rayal said that public relations is an important part of mass communication because public relations work is done to fulfill a particular purpose. In simple words, public relations works to disseminate messages for branding any institution’s or individual’s in the same way as it happens in mass communication. He further said that to become a successful public relations officer, it is necessary to have complete information about your institution where you are working as a PRO (Public Relations Officer). If you do not have complete information about your organization, then you will not be able to do better branding of your organization because the interest of the public and the institution is the objective of public relations. Along with this, Dr. Rayal said that the student going into the field of public relations should master communication, writing and relationship building skills. Along with this, it is also important to develop teamwork and leadership skills. He further added that Knowledge of social media and digital marketing skills is the need of the hour.

 Welcoming the guest speaker on this occasion, the Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Chandra Thaledi said that Professor Rayal is a skilled expert in the field of public relations. Dr. Thaledi said that public relations is a field where one gets an opportunity to present organizations and their goals in front of the general public and the media. Therefore, the role of a public relations officer is important in creating the image of the organization and maintaining it in the future as well.

During this time, the students present listened to Professor Rayal very patiently and at the end of the lecture, put their curiosities in the form of questions and got them satisfied by Dr. Rayal.

 On this occasion, faculties of the department Professor Ashok Tyagi, Dr. Preeti Singh, Ram Prakash Tiwari, Shelly Sharma and Shikeb Majeed along with all the students were present.
