The Alumni Cell of the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a guest lecture on “Communication in the Age of AI” on January 19, 2026, with the aim of sensitizing students to the growing influence of artificial intelligence on modern communication practices.

Dr. Harsh Tomar, Assistant Professor at Swami Vivekanand Global University, delivered the keynote address. He explained how artificial intelligence has transformed journalism, media management, advertising, public relations, and digital content creation. He highlighted the increasing use of AI tools in news gathering, content personalization, data analysis, and audience engagement, stressing their relevance for aspiring media professionals.

Dr. Tomar actively engaged students by sharing practical examples of AI-driven platforms used in contemporary media organizations. He emphasized that AI enhances efficiency and accuracy but cannot replace human creativity, ethical judgment, and social responsibility. He urged students to adapt to technological advancements while upholding the core values of journalism, such as truth, credibility, and public interest.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who raised questions related to ethical challenges, misinformation, data privacy, and the future job landscape in the media industry. Dr. Tomar responded by encouraging students to acquire digital skills and develop a critical understanding of AI applications to remain relevant in the evolving communication ecosystem.

Dr. Ashutosh Verma coordinated the event and ensured its smooth execution. He stated that alumni-led academic activities play a crucial role in connecting classroom learning with industry expectations and emerging global trends.

Faculty members appreciated the lecture for its contemporary relevance and practical insights. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the event as a meaningful academic initiative that broadened students’ perspectives on communication in the age of artificial intelligence.
