The Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut organized a guest lecture on Mobile Learning: Empowering Users through Mobile Library Tools on 20.01.2026. The lecture was delivered by Dr. M. Madhusudan, Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi, New Delhi.
The primary objective of the lecture was to create awareness among students about mobile learning and mobile-based library tools, promote digital literacy, and prepare them for future smart library services. The session aimed to sensitize learners towards the growing role of mobile technologies in modern information access and knowledge dissemination.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Science, who warmly welcomed the guest speaker and highlighted the importance of mobile technology in transforming library services. He remarked that mobile-based library services empower students and researchers by encouraging self-learning and lifelong learning, making education more inclusive and user-oriented. He noted that such academic lectures, help students stay updated with contemporary technological advancements and prepare them for future smart library environments.
During his insightful address, Prof. Dr. M. Madhusudan emphasized that in the present digital era, mobile technology has made library services more accessible, efficient, and user-centric. He elaborated on various mobile-enabled library services such as mobile applications, mobile OPACs, e-resources, QR codes, alert services, and social media-based library platforms. He highlighted how these tools empower users by providing seamless access to information anytime and anywhere. He explained that mobile learning is not limited to students alone but also offers new learning opportunities for researchers and the general public. Mobile-based library tools significantly enhance information literacy and ensure continuous availability of library services, thereby strengthening lifelong learning.
At the end of the programme, Dr. Sapna Sharma expressed a formal vote of thanks to the guest speaker. Faculty members Dr. Javed Khan, Dr. Sapna Sharma, Dr. Alpana, and Ms. Bhavana Joshi were present during the lecture. The students actively participated in the session, showed keen interest in the topic, and asked relevant questions related to mobile learning and library technologies.
