Guest Lecture On Creativity and Copyright: The Role of IPR in Literature

The Department of Languages and the Department of Library Science, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, jointly organized a guest lecture on the theme “Creativity and Copyright: The Role of IPR in Literature” on 28th August 2025 at 11:30 AM. The distinguished guest speaker for the occasion was Prof. (Dr.) Anil Aneja, Professor, Department of English, University of Delhi.

The program began with a welcome address by Prof. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, who warmly welcomed the guest speaker, faculty members, and students. In his address, Prof. Tyagi highlighted the growing significance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the field of literature and creative studies. He remarked that in today’s digital era, the protection of creative works is essential not only for preserving originality but also for encouraging young minds to engage in meaningful innovation.

Following this, Prof. (Dr.) Anil Aneja delivered his lecture on the central theme. He provided deep insights into the relationship between creativity and copyright, explaining how literary works are protected under the framework of IPR. Prof. Aneja emphasized that creativity is not merely an act of imagination but also a form of intellectual investment that deserves recognition and safeguarding. He drew attention to cases from literary history where copyright has played a crucial role in protecting authors’ rights. His lecture underlined the fact that while creativity flourishes in freedom, it also requires structured legal frameworks to ensure justice and fairness in the world of literature.

After the guest lecture, faculty members shared their reflections. Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Department of Languages, expressed her gratitude to Prof. Aneja for his enriching lecture. She remarked that the session was both intellectually stimulating and practically relevant, especially for literature students who aspire to be writers, researchers, or critics in the future. She emphasized that awareness of copyright laws is vital for all who contribute to the creative fields.

Dr. Rafat Khanam, English and Foreign Language In-charge, also shared her remarks. She highlighted that the lecture broadened the understanding of creativity in literature by linking it to legal and cultural dimensions. Dr. Khanam stated that such discussions encourage students to think critically about the ownership of knowledge and the ethics of creativity. She thanked the participants for making the event successful.

The program was graced by the presence of esteemed faculty members including Prof. Rajeshwar Pal, Dr. Manisha, Dr. Nishi Raghav, Dr. Swati, Dr. Ashish, Dr. Preeti, Dr. Ranveer, Ms. Sania, Dr. Abhijeet, Mr. Ankit who actively participated in the discussion.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of the speaker, faculty, and organizing committee. The guest lecture was a remarkable success and left the audience enriched with knowledge on the crucial role of IPR in literature.
