Department of Library & Information Science, SVSU, Meerut organized ‘Guest Lecture’ for the students of MLIS & BLIS. The Guest speaker was Dr. S.B. Kulshrestha, Professor, Department of Library & Information Science, M.M.H College, Ghaziabad. He is a distinguished academician with extensive expertise in the library and information science subject.
The Topic of this lecture was ‘E-Resources for Academic Libraries’. Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Head, Department of Library & Information Science, SVSU gave a brief introduction of the speaker. Dr. S. B. Kulshrestha addressed all the students and said that the importance of e-resources is increasing tremendously in the present times because e-resources can be accessed from any place at any time, e-resources are updated regularly, with the help of e-resources, users can get the desired information directly through search engines and other digital tools. The same content can be accessed by multiple users at a time, apart from this, the digital format of the content provides multilevel search and customizable features. He also told that e-resources are playing a very important role in present scenario, e-resources provide the necessary material to students and researchers for their education and research, through e-resources libraries have digitized their services, which has increased the reach and influence area of libraries, as well as their storage and preservation cost is also reduced. Along with reducing the cost, it ensures greater availability of resources.
During the program, he also gave some special tips to the students, through which students can prepare themselves as soon as possible for upcoming challenges in the field of library & Information Science.
The program was started by Head of the Department Dr. Sudhir Tyagi along with the speaker Dr. S.B. Kulshrestha and all the teachers by lighting a lamp in front of Maa Saraswati. After that, Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Head, Department of Library & Information Science, SVSU said that that the importance and utility of e-resources has increased immensely in today’s digital age. E-resources are those resources which are saved, accessed and used in digital format. He said that there are many challenges in the way of making e-resources available to users such as copyright licensing, user awareness, access problems such as equipment required for e-resources and lack of internet connectivity can be a big challenge in rural or economically weaker areas.
The lecture was attended by the all faculty members and students. Students found the lecture to be incredibly inspirational and educational. All of the students spoke with Dr. S.B. Kulshrestha Sir and had their questions answered on the subject. Dr. Sapna Sharma gave a vote of thanks to end the lecture. All of the faculty members and students actively supported the initiative.
