Meerut, August 28, 2024 – Rahul Sankrityayan Subharti School of Linguistics and Foreign Languages, under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut, held a vibrant series of promotional workshops on August 28, 2024, to introduce the newly launched French and Korean Language Certificate Courses. This event aimed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of global Languages particularly French and Korean language. The initiative, supported by strategic partnerships through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with LeFrehindi and the IKBCC Foundation, reflects SVSU’s commitment to developing global communication skills among its students, preparing them to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.
The day unfolded with a series of dynamic sessions designed to engage diverse audiences across the campus. The first session of the workshop was organized in collaboration with Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law; it began promptly at 10:00 AM at the Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law. The venue was filled with excitement and a spirit of intellectual curiosity as students and faculty members gathered to explore new linguistic horizons. The workshops provided a platform for enthusiastic engagement and cultural exchange, highlighting the university’s role as a hub for promoting linguistic diversity and multiculturalism.
Dr. Rafat Khanam, In-Charge of English and Foreign Languages, commenced the event with a warm and inspiring welcome address, emphasizing the transformative power of learning new languages. She set the tone for the day by underscoring the importance of cross-cultural communication in today’s globalized society. Following her address, Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Department of Languages, and Dr. Vaibhav Goel Bharti, Dean of the Law College, and Dr. sarika Tyagi, coordinator of the workshop extended a cordial welcome to the guest speakers by presenting them with plants and patkas which is a traditional tokens of respect of Subharti University, symbolizing growth and cultural continuity.
The first session featured two distinguished experts whose passion and profound knowledge of their respective languages captivated the audience. Miss Shilpa Jain, an accomplished expert in French, led the French Language session. With her deep understanding of French grammar, pronunciation, and cultural nuances, she transformed the classroom into an interactive and lively learning environment. Her engaging teaching style and ability to break down complex concepts into simple, relatable terms inspired the participants to pursue the language with enthusiasm and vigor. Miss Jain’s session was not merely a lesson in language; it was an exploration of French culture, history, and social norms, providing participants with a holistic perspective on the French-speaking world.
Concurrently, Mr. Rahu Kumar, a distinguished faculty in Korean linguistic and cultural studies, conducted the Korean Language session. Known for his comprehensive knowledge of the Korean language and his deep insights into Korean culture, Mr. Kumar’s session was a rich tapestry of linguistic instruction intertwined with cultural narratives. He skillfully integrated linguistic concepts with fascinating cultural anecdotes, historical context, and contemporary relevance, captivating attendees and fostering a profound appreciation for the intricacies of the Korean Language. His approach to teaching was both methodical and engaging, made the session a memorable experience for all involved.
The first session was further enriched by thoughtful remarks from esteemed dignitaries. Prof. Dr. Vaibhav Goel Bharti, Dean of the Law College articulated the broader cultural and intellectual benefits of learning foreign languages, stating, “Studying languages like French and Korean opens doors to understanding diverse cultures, fostering empathy, and building bridges between nations. These courses are not just academic offerings; they are tools for nurturing global citizens who can navigate the complexities of the modern world with sensitivity.” His insights were echoed by Dr. Seema Sharma, who emphasized the strategic advantages of learning French and Korean in today’s global markets, where multilingualism is increasingly valued.
Dr. Rafat Khanam, In-Charge of English and Foreign Languages and the master of ceremony presented an elaborated description about the enrollment process. She encouraged students to take advantage of these new opportunities to enhance their cultural literacy and communication skills in French and Korean Languages. She further highlighted the growing relevance of multilingualism in various professional fields, reinforcing the value of these courses in broadening students’ career prospects.
Following a brief interlude, the Second Session commenced at 11:30 AM in the MMM Auditorium, SITE College, providing another vibrant platform for engagement. This session was organized in the collaboration with Subharti Institute of Technology and Engineering, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Keral Verma Subharti College of Science.
The distinguished Speakers –Mr. Rahul Kumar and Miss Shilpa Jain addressed the diverse group of students and enlighten them with French and Korean language popularity and the job opportunities in India and abroad. They emphasized that the objective of initiating the French and Korean Language at Subharti is to provide students with Linguistic ability and make strong cultural bond between India, France and korea.
Esteemed dignitaries delivered insightful addresses on the practical benefits and potential impacts of the new courses- French and Korean Language Certificate Course, on the students’ academic and professional journeys. Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, along with Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Renu Mavi, and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Dr. Manoj Kapil, shared the interdisciplinary advantages of linguistic proficiency in various fields such as law, business, technology, and social sciences.
The session was further enriched by the contributions of key coordinators, including Mr. Manoj Gupta (Computer Application), Dr. Mandeep (Mathematics), Dr. Supriya Tomar (Biotechnology), Dr. Gambhir, and Dr. Satwan (Agriculture), who highlighted the relevance and application of Language skills in diverse work environments. They shared their experiences and insights on how linguistic diversity can enhance professional performance and open up new avenues for collaboration and innovation in their respective fields.
Behind the scenes, the smooth execution of the workshops was a testament to the dedication and meticulous planning of faculty members, including Prof. Rajeshwar Pal, Dr. Yeshpal Sharma, Dr. Manisha Luthra, Ms. Swati Sharma, Dr. Ranveer, Dr. Ashish Dipankar, Dr. Anuj Bawara, Dr. Farha Hashmi, and Dr. Nishi Raghav. Their efforts ensured that the workshops ran seamlessly, providing an enriching experience for all participants. The contribution of volunteers from the Department of Languages, including Chhavi, Apurvi, Shikha, Priya, Prachi, Priyanshu, Mayank and Fahad was also invaluable, as they played a crucial role in coordinating the event logistics and assisting attendees.
Both sessions were hailed as resounding successes, embodying SVSU’s commitment to promoting linguistic diversity and fostering cultural understanding. The workshops not only enhanced the University’s academic environment but also created a space for meaningful intercultural dialogue, inspiring students to become global citizens. The university anticipates that the enthusiasm generated during these workshops will lead to increased enrollment in its French and Korean Language Certificate Courses, further enriching the academic landscape and preparing students to thrive in a globalized world.
