“The Process of Composition of Poetry”
On the occasion of World Poetry Day by the Department of Languages on 21st March 2024
The Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Swami Vivekananda Subharti University, celebrated World Poetry Day on March 21, 2024. On this occasion, a guest lecture on the topic “The Process of Composition of Poetry” was organized. Prof. Usha Kiran, renowned poet and writer was the chief guest and speaker of the day. The program commenced with the lighting of the lamp before the image of Goddess Saraswati by Prof. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean of FASS, Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the department, Dr. Rafat Khanam, and Dr. Sapna. Maj. Gen. Dr. G.K. Thapliyal, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, extended his best wishes and conveyed his blessing to the literary lovers of the University and stimulated them to spread awareness in the society through their poetry writing.
Dr. Usha Kiran embarked on her address with the lines of Acharya Ramchandra Shukla, stating that “Poetry elevates the human heart from the confines of selfish relationships to the realm of universal sentiments, where the profound nature of the world’s various movements is experienced, and pure emotions are communicated.” She provided the students with insightful and valuable information about poetry. She expressed that the process of poetry composition is akin to the blossoming of a flower or the lighting of a lamp. She recited few beautiful excerpts of her book “Tana-Bana” which is an aesthetic collection of poem with painting and sketches. She expressed the inspiration and essence of her novel “Chandan Ka Dard” which is a story of her brotherly love and acute pain of her brother suffered due to Cancer and finally his journey to the eternal world. She emphasized that the writing process is the sweetest and unparalleled means of expressing one’s emotions. She also recited her poem:
“We’ve touched the fire, now we’ll touch the moon, Life is a test of living, and We’ll pass the test.”
Her melodious recitation captivated the audience. Dr. Usha Kiran encouraged students to compose poetry, and writing stories and diaries. Most of the students interacted with Dr. Usha Kiran, asking questions about the process of poetry composition, and received answers to their queries and got the keen insights about the writing process.
Dr. Seema Sharma, the Head of the department, introduced Dr. Usha Kiran as a successful artist, poet, skilled writer, reviewer, and critic, who has inspired society to live life through her writings. Addressing the students on the subject of poetic composition, she emphasized that every student should be able to express their emotions through some form of art, as writing has always been the most powerful medium of expressions. She assured that such events would be organized periodically for the students of the Language Department, aiming to enhance their skills in making poetry a medium of expression.
At the end of the program, the department Head, Dr. Seema Sharma extended gratitude to the university’s founder, Vice-Chancellor, Chief Executive Officer, Department Heads, and the guest Speaker, as well as all the teachers and students of the Language Department, Library Department, and Fine Arts Department. On this occasion Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr. Rafat Khanam, Dr. Rajeshwar , Dr. Shobha Ratudi, Dr. Ashish, Dr. Manisha, Dr. Anuj Bawra, Dr. Ranveer, Ms Swati Sharma, Dr. yashpal, Dr. Sapna, Dr. Javed, and Dr. Alpana were present. In the event total 29 students and faculty members participated. The one-day event on World Poetry Day was successfully concluded with the enthusiastic gestures.
