Guest Lecture on Women in Governing and Their Role in Promoting Sustainable Lifestyle

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Subharti University hosted a guest lecture titled “Women in Governing and Their Role in Promoting Sustainable Lifestyle” on April 18, 2026. The programme aimed to engage students and researchers in discussions on good governance, women’s empowerment, and Sustainable Development Goal-12 (responsible consumption and sustainable lifestyles). Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Dean of the Faculty, emphasized universities’ duty to link students with topics driving holistic societal development. He highlighted women’s governance participation as key to prudent resource use and sustainable growth. Chief Speaker: Prof. (Dr.) Alok Kumar from the Sociology Department, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, explained how women’s increasing involvement in governance boosts responsible consumption trends. He cited examples of women’s contributions at family and community levels to resource balance, waste management, and eco-protection, urging youth motivation for sustainability. Through various examples, he illustrated how women play a pivotal role at both the family and community levels in the balanced utilization of resources, waste management, and environmental conservation. Furthermore, he asserted that inspiring the youth to adopt sustainable lifestyles is the most pressing need of the hour. During the lecture, students actively participated by posing various questions. In his concluding remarks, Dr. Manoj Tripathi expressed his gratitude to all the guests and participants, noting that such events prove instrumental in cultivating a sense of social responsibility and an interest in research among students. All students, faculty members, and staff of the faculty were present on this occasion.
