“Importance of Meteorology in addressing Global Challenges”
A guest lecture was organized on the topic “Importance of meteorology in addressing global challenges” under the joint aegis of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Subharti Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and Keral Verma Subharti Science College. In this lecture Dr. Anand Sharma, former Additional Director General of the Indian Meteorological Department, was the keynote speaker. On this occasion, Dr. Sharma presented practical and scientific views on the important role of the Meteorological Department in human life. Dr. Sharma further said that meteorology studies the atmosphere, which includes weather processes and weather forecasting. This science helps us in forecasting various natural disasters such as storms, floods, and droughts, so that we can prepare to deal with these disasters.
He said that meteorology is extremely important for agriculture, as it gives us information about the weather so that we can protect the crops. In the same sequence, while discussing the role of the Meteorological Department in the field of environment, Dr. Sharma said that meteorology gives us accurate information about the state of the environment, so that we can also work for environmental protection. Along with this, meteorology also plays an important role in economic development, as it helps us to make economic decisions based on the weather. Dr. Anand Sharma said that due to all these reasons, meteorology plays an important role in dealing with global challenges.
Earlier, the lecture traditionally started with the lighting of the lamp. After this, the Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Thaledi formally welcomed Dr. Anand Sharma. In his address,Dr. Thaledi emphasized the relevance of meteorology in today’s context.
The lecture concluded with a collective environmental oath to protect nature, strengthening the commitment of the people present towards environmental protection.
On this occasion, Dr. Anand Sharma was honored by the university by giving him a Angavastram and a memento. The program was hosted by Assistant Professor Ram Prakash Tiwari of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. During this, Shikeb Majeed, Shelly Sharma, Dr. Gambhir and Dr. Himanshu along with Prince Chauhan, Kapil Gill, Kuldeep, Bijendra and students of the Journalism Department and Science Faculty were present.
