International Mother Language Day Celebration 

The Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Department of Home Science commemorated International Mother Language Day on February 21st with great enthusiasm and a spirit of cultural appreciation by program coordinator Ms. Urvashi Sharma. The event aimed to emphasize the significance of linguistic diversity, heritage, and the necessity of preserving mother languages. The celebration served as an opportunity for students to showcase their linguistic skills and deep connection with their native languages through an engaging poetry and singing competition.The program commenced with an inaugural speech by Ms. Urvashi Sharma, who highlighted the importance of one’s mother tongue in shaping identity and fostering cultural pride. The speech was followed by an informative session on the history and significance of International Mother Language Day, encouraging students to take pride in their linguistic roots by HOD Dr Nishma Singh.
A major attraction of the event was the poetry and singing competition, where students recited poems or sang songs in their native languages, covering themes such as love, patriotism, and social issues. The heartfelt performances resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the power of language as an emotional and cultural bridge. The songs added melodious charm to the celebration. In order to motivate students to participate more without hesitation even faculty members recited poems, which boosted the morals of the students.The competition was judged by HOD Dr Nishma Singh, who commended the students for their creativity, confidence, and passion for their mother tongues. The winners were honored with certificates, recognizing their dedication and exceptional performances.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, during which Ms. Urvashi Sharma expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all participants, faculty members, and the Head of Department (HOD) for their valuable presence
