International Student Exchange Programme on “Indian Food, Nutrition & Culinary Heritage” at Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Department of Home Science, SVSU
Meerut, August 18, 2026: Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU), Meerut, successfully organised a three-day International Student Exchange Programme on “Indian Food, Nutrition & Culinary Heritage” from August 16–18, 2026, in collaboration with Daegu Haany University, Republic of Korea. The programme was organised by the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Department of Home Science, in association with International Global Students Relations and the Faculty of AYUSH.
The programme brought together 16 students from Daegu Haany University and 3 faculty members from Korea for academic interaction, culinary learning and cultural exchange. Prof. (Dr.) Song Jichung, Dean, Department of International Affairs, Dr. Park Haejin, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicinal Food Technology and Business, Mr. Byun Sung Wook, Director of Administration, NOMAD Education Initiative Group, and Mr. Pae Joonwon, Staff Member, K-MEDI Silk Road Center from Daegu Haany University and the students Kim- Siyaeon, Kim – Jinha, Kim- Halin, Park- Sejeong, Park- Siyeon, Park- Chan Woong, Yu- Sarang, You- Somang, Lee- Minji, Lee- Sumin, Lee- Eunseo, Lee- Yujin, Jang- Hyowon, Cho- Sujin, Chun- Yuna, Heo- Yeongjun visited Swami Vivekanand Subharti University for the International Exchange Programme.
The programme featured the Welcome Address by Prof. (Dr.) Jyoti Gaur, Head, Department of Home Science; an address by Prof. (Dr.) Song Jichung, and an address by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Kumar Mittal. Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Munish Reddy and Dean, Faculty of AYUSH were also present at the event.
The programme was successfully guided and supported by Hon’ble CEO Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, whose constant encouragement, visionary leadership and wholehearted support played a vital role in strengthening the programme.
“Subharti University is committed to taking Indian knowledge, food heritage and cultural traditions to the global platform through meaningful international collaborations,” said Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Kumar Mittal, emphasising the University’s commitment to internationalisation and cross-cultural learning. Prof. (Dr.) Song Jichung, Dean, Department of International Affairs, introduced his university and emphasised on necessity of global market exposure and experiential learning.
The academic sessions covered the utility of Indian Thali System by Dr. Jyoti Gaur, , Indian Culinary Techniques by Dr. Mansi Chaudhary, Indian Food Industry, Innovation & University Research by Dr. Shalu Nehra, Ayurveda & Diet Therapy by Dr. Akanksha Dwivedi, and Indian Nutrition & Public Health by Dr. Shailja Durgapal.
The practical activities included Traditional Indian Thali preparation, Display and traditional table setting which was coordinated by Dr. Mansi , Poster Making on “Korean–Indian Commonalities in Food and Culture”, Mandana, experience of wearing Indian costumes (Saree by girls, and Dhoti Kurta by boys), Cultural Performances by both Indian and Korean students, which was enjoyed by all. Out of other activities, first position in Poster competition was achieved by Cho- Sujin, second by Park- Sejeong, and Third by Jang- Hyowon.
The students also enjoyed the cultural event. The performances from Host university were given by Deepika, Kanishka, Harshita, and Sheval, while the cultural performances from Daegu Haany University were given by Lee- Sumin, Lee- Eunseo, Jang- Hyowon, and Heo- Yeongjun. At the end all the students enjoyed music and dance.
For this event, the inaugural session was conducted by Dr. Shalu Nehra and Dr. Shailja Durgapal from Department of Home Science, as Masters of Ceremony. The Valedictory Session included participant reflections and certificate distribution by Dr. Mansi Chaudhary and Dr. Rashi Rastogi, followed by the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Nishma Singh. The staff members and students of the Department of Home Science actively participated and enthusiastically contributed to the successful execution of the programme.
The successful exchange programme strengthened the academic, cultural and institutional ties between India and Korea, creating a meaningful platform for friendship, knowledge sharing and future international collaborations.
