International Workshop on “Experiments and Accidents in Painting” Organized by the Department of Fine Arts, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut

The Department of Fine Arts, Nandalal Bose Subharti College of Fine Arts & Fashion Design, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, successfully organized a two-day International Workshop on the theme “Experiments and Accidents in Painting” on November 3–4, 2025.

The event marked a significant milestone in the college’s ongoing mission to promote global artistic exchange and creative innovation.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and creativity. The ritual was gracefully performed by the Chief Guest, Ms. Maisie Ingram — a distinguished artist from Glasgow, U.K., along with Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P. K. Sharma and Dean Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra.

Following the inauguration, Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Gupta(HOD) Department of Fine Arts and Dr. Vandana Tomar Academic coordinator, Department of Fine Arts, Prof.Dr.Bhawna Grover felicitated the Chief Guest with a Patka as a token of gratitude, while Dean Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra presented a Planter to Ms. Ingram as a mark of appreciation.

Ms. Maisie Ingram, known internationally for her evocative works in oil pastels, charcoal, and acrylic, captivated the audience with her presentation. Her practice explores profound themes of memory and time, where “a memory you can hold, a shadow you can touch,” and the idea that “the image may be blurry, but the feeling is sharp.”

She shared insights into her acclaimed works, including Gate on Fire and On Sunday We Made a Big Fire and Wound the Clocks Back, along with her self-published 20-page Risograph Book of drawings and prints. Her session encouraged students to embrace spontaneity, emotion, and experimentation as vital components of the creative process.

The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Lakshay Kumar (Workshop In-Charge) and organized by Dr. Vandana Tomar, under the guidance and support of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P. K. Sharma, Chief Executive Officer Prof. (Dr.) Shalya Raj, and Dean Prof. (Dr.) Pintu Mishra.

Faculty members, students, and research scholars participated with great enthusiasm, gaining valuable exposure to international art practices. The event served as a platform for cross-cultural learning and creative exploration.
