An IPR Awareness Session titled “Fostering Innovation through Intellectual Property Awareness and Protection: Innovate • Protect • Sustain” was organized by the IPR Cell (Research and Development Cell) in collaboration with AKSH IP Associates, Noida, under the aegis of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and aligned with SDG 14: Life Below Water.
The session was held on Wednesday, 26 March at 2:30 p.m. in the Conference Hall, R & D Cell. The event witnessed participation from Research Coordinators, IPR Coordinators, faculty members, and interested researchers, with special preference given to newly joined faculty members. A total of 25 participants attended the session.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Nisha Rana, In-charge, IPR Cell, who warmly welcomed Prof. Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya (Dean, R&D Cell), the resource persons Ms. Monika (Director), AKSH IP Associates, along with all participants.
Dr. Aruna Bansal, Convener, IIC, felicitated the keynote speaker with an angvastra and planter as a token of appreciation.
In her address, Dr. Rana emphasized the importance of protecting innovation through IPR mechanisms. The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. Vaibhav Goel Bhartiya, who highlighted the critical role of IPR in strengthening research and innovation ecosystems and encouraged active participation in patenting and innovation activities.
The objective of the session was to create awareness about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in research and innovation and to sensitize participants toward protecting innovative ideas within academic and research ecosystems. The session aimed to provide a clear understanding of patents, copyrights, novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability, along with guidance on documentation practices, plagiarism checks, and filing procedures.
The session covered comprehensive aspects of IPR, including:
• Introduction to key components of Intellectual Property Rights
• Importance of protecting innovative ideas
• Concepts of novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability
• Step-by-step guidance on patent filing procedures
• Common mistakes in IPR applications and ways to avoid them
• Case-based discussions for better understanding
• Integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in research
• Special focus on SDG 14: Life Below Water
The resource person for the session, Ms. Monika from AKSH IP Associates, Noida, delivered an informative and insightful lecture. She elaborated on practical approaches for protecting intellectual assets and emphasized the importance of IPR in enhancing research quality and innovation. The session included real-life examples and practical insights into patent filing and documentation.
The presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A session, where participants actively engaged and clarified their queries related to patent filing, plagiarism checks, and research documentation.
The session concluded successfully, leaving participants better informed and motivated to protect their innovative ideas through appropriate IPR mechanisms. The program was well-received and aligned with the institution’s vision of fostering innovation, research excellence, and sustainable development.
Outcome of the Activity
The IPR Awareness Session proved effective in enhancing participants’ understanding of Intellectual Property Rights and their role in research and innovation. Participants gained practical knowledge of IPR processes, including patent filing procedures, documentation practices, and plagiarism checks.
The session encouraged faculty members and researchers to actively engage in protecting their intellectual assets and motivated them to explore patent filing opportunities. It also strengthened the culture of innovation and ethical research within the institution.
Furthermore, the session emphasized the importance of aligning research with Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 14: Life below Water, thereby promoting sustainable and responsible innovation.
