Environmental Awareness, Survey and Plantation Programme Organized on the Occasion of International Day of Clean Air 2026
Meerut: On the occasion of International Day of Clean Air 2026, a special Environmental Awareness Programme was organized at a Government School in Parikshitgarh under the joint aegis of the Department of Environmental Engineering and University Environment Committee, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut.
The objective of the programme was to sensitize students about the harmful effects of air pollution, global warming, the importance of clean air, and environmental conservation. More than 500 students from the university participated in the programme. The school students were provided with information on various aspects of air pollution and were motivated to contribute towards environmental protection.
Awareness through Street Play
As part of the programme, university students presented a street play (Nukkad Natak). Through the performance, the major causes of air pollution, its impacts on human health and the environment, and practical measures to reduce pollution were presented in an interesting and effective manner.
The street play played an important role in creating awareness among school students about environmental protection and the importance of maintaining clean air.
Expert Lecture
On this occasion, Dr. Mukesh Ruhela, Chairman, University Environment Committee and Head, Department of Environmental Engineering, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, addressed the students.
He apprised the students about global warming and its effects on the environment, sources of air pollution, its impact on human health, the need for clean air, and individual as well as collective responsibility in controlling pollution.
He encouraged the students to adopt environment-friendly practices in their daily lives and to create awareness among others about the importance of clean air and environmental protection.
Awareness Survey among Students
During the programme, an Air Pollution Awareness Survey was also conducted among the school students. Through a question-and-answer session, an effort was made to assess the students’ awareness regarding the causes of air pollution, its adverse effects, impacts on health, and preventive measures.
During the survey, students were also provided with relevant information and their queries were addressed. The objective of the activity was not only to assess the level of awareness among students but also to provide them with correct and practical information and strengthen their understanding of clean air and environmental protection.
Plantation Activity to Promote Environmental Conservation
Following the awareness programme, a plantation activity was also organized. Students from the university and the school jointly planted saplings and took a pledge to contribute towards environmental conservation.
Through the plantation activity, students were sensitized to the importance of trees and plants and their vital role in creating a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.
Key Participants and Contributions
On this occasion, Major Lovkesh Ruhela, Principal, Parikshitgarh Inter College, appreciated the efforts of the SVSU students and the organizing team for the successful conduct of the programme. The programme was led by Dr. Mukesh Ruhela, Head, Department of Environmental Engineering, with Dr. Shweta Bhardwaj, along with Ms. Pratishtha and Ms. Neha. The students Himanshu, Sudhanshu, Aryan, Saksham, and Anisha made special contributions to the successful organization of the programme. The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. Manoj Kapil, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut.
