Korean Through Games

Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, SVSU, In Collaboration with Indo Korea Business Culture Center (IKBCC) organized a program entitled Korean through Games On 16th December 2024. The program started with the blessings and welcome address of Dr. Rafat Khanam. She is the In-charge of English and Foreign Languages, Department of Languages, FASS. Dr. Rafat Khanam informed that Korean games have emerged as a significant educational tool, offering engaging and interactive learning experiences. Today’s event Korean Through Games will aware us with Korean learning, focusing on language acquisition, cultural understanding and social interaction.

Korean through Games was an event full with various activities. The first game was ‘Yut Nori’ Game. Korean trainer Mr. Rahul Kumar informed that Yut Nori is a traditional Korean board game that’s typically played during the Korean Lunar New Year, Seollal. It’s a game of strategy and chance where players take turns throwing four wooden sticks to move their tokens around a board. He further informed that it is similar to Ludo game in India. Kanishka and Ayushi students of Department of Languages played the game very well and Ayushi became the winner.

In the engaging activities, participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Korea by playing a traditional game that has been enjoyed for generations. This game not only offered a chance to have fun to the students but also provided a unique window into Korean customs and social interactions. As players gather together, they experienced the joy and camaraderie that comes with shared gameplay, while also appreciating the historical significance and cultural nuances embedded in this time-honored tradition.

The second game played with full enthusiasm was Ttakji. Mr. Rahul told that Ttakji is a traditional South Korean game where players use folded paper tiles to flip each other’s tiles. Ttakji is a fun game for families and friends, and making the tiles can help kids develop fine motor skills. All the faculty members and students enjoyed this game. Dr. Ashish, Dr. Nishi, Fahad, Bhumi, Ayushi, Samia, played and relished the game with full zeal.

Dr. Rafat Khanam , The In-Charge of English and Foreign Languages remarked at the end of the program that Learning Korean through games offered an innovative and effective approach by making language acquisition enjoyable and culturally enriching.

The program ended with vote of thanks and pleasant gestures. During the Program Prof. Rajeshwar, Dr. Rafat Khanam, Dr. Ashish, Dr. Nishi, Ms.Swati, Mr. Rahul Kumar and , Fahad ,Bhumi, Samiya, Kanishka, Vidhi, Ayushi, Ananya and  Aditi were present.
