LEGAL AWARENESS PROGRAM

An Awareness Session was organized by Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law in Association with District Legal Service Authority Meerut, under the guidance of  Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Chandra  and under the leadership of Prof.Dr.Reena Bishnoi Dean Faculty of Law. The session commenced with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi, Dean  ,Subharti Institute of Law, who extended a warm welcome to the speakers of DLSA and the wishes to the coordinator of the program. After that Dr.Sarika Tyagi, Coordinator Law Club highlighted about the session which was based on the direction of High Courts Decision held in the case of Bacchi Devi V/S State of Uttar Pradesh. After that first speaker of the program was Mr.Amber Saharan,Assistant Defence Counsel,DLSA. He told about the law point in the case of Bacchi Devi and about the decision held by High Court. In Smt. Bacchi Devi Vs. State of U.P. and Another (2025), the Allahabad High Court ruled that accused persons who cooperated with the investigation and were not arrested during that process should not be sent to judicial custody upon the filing of a charge sheet. The court directed magistrates to accept bail bonds under Section 88 Cr.P.C. (Section 91 BNSS) without requiring routine surrender. After that the second speaker was Mrs.Rekha Jain,Chief defence counsel,DLSA Meerut. She told about the working of DLSA and the facilities provided by the to the victims who are financially weak due to which not able to approach for justice because ultimate aim of DLSA is to provide free legal aid to the needy person.She further told that The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) works to provide free legal aid, advice, and assistance to marginalized and eligible citizens while promoting dispute resolution through Lok Adalats. Led by the District Judge, it operates to ensure access to justice, organize legal literacy camps, and handle pre-litigation matters. Working Areas of DLSA are free Legal Aid & Advice, Provides legal representation, drafting, and advice for eligible persons (SC/ST, women, children, victims of trafficking/disaster, persons in custody, and low-income individuals). It also organizes regular and monthly Lok Adalats to settle pending court cases and pre- litigation disputes, offering a fast and cost-effective alternative to traditional courts.Conducts legal literacy camps, particularly for weaker sections of society, to spread awareness of legal rights. At the end session was concluded by Vote of thanks.
