Awareness Program on BCI Digital Conduct Rules for Legal Community

In accordance with the Bar Council of India Circular dated 17.07.2026, Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law organized an awareness program on “BCI Digital Conduct Rules for Legal Community”, under the guidance of Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Chandra (Former Judge, High Court of Judicature at Allahabad), Director, Sardar Patel Subharti Institute of Law, and Prof. (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi, Officiating Dean, Faculty of Law.
The programme commenced with the welcome of the dignitaries, followed by an introductory address highlighting the importance of responsible and ethical use of social media in the legal profession. The speakers emphasized the duty of advocates, law students, and legal professionals to uphold the dignity of the judiciary and maintain public confidence through appropriate online conduct.
Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Chandra said that- The Preamble to Chapter-II, Part-IV of the Bar Council of India Rules, namely the Standards of Professional Conduct and Etiquette, provides: “An advocate shall, at all times, comport himself in a manner befitting his status as an officer of the Court, a privileged member of the community and a gentleman”.
Prof. (Dr.) Reena Bishnoi said that “Legal Profession in India is not merely an occupation, trade, business or avenue of personal publicity. It is a noble and learned profession, integrally connected with the administration of justice. An advocate is an officer of the court, a privileged member of the community and a participant in the solemn process of justice”.
Participants were sensitized about the Bar Council of India guidelines on social media usage, focusing on professional ethics, confidentiality, responsible communication, avoidance of misinformation, and respect for judges, courts, advocates, and litigants. The session also highlighted the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cautioned against the misuse of deepfakes, manipulated content, and AI-generated misinformation.
The resource persons explained the legal and professional consequences of unethical online behaviour and encouraged participants to use digital platforms responsibly for legal awareness and public education. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to promoting professional ethics, responsible digital citizenship, and adherence to the Bar Council of India guidelines. In the end the students took a pledge and also signed an undertaking to not indulge in such kind of activities.
