DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONDUCTS MARCH PAST AND TORCH BEARING CEREMONY AS PART OF SPORTS WEEK 2026 CELEBRATIONS
Meerut: The Department of Physical Education, Faculty of Education, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, today conducted a March Past and Torch Bearing Ceremony at the University Sports Ground, as part of the ongoing Sports Week 2026 celebrations, drawing enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members across the University.
The proceedings began with the arrival of the Chief Guest for the occasion, Dr. Pintu Mishra, Dean, Faculty of Education, who was formally received by Dr. Manju Adhikari, Head, Department of Physical Education, with a ceremonial patka and a flower sapling, in keeping with the University’s tradition of honouring its guests of distinction.
A significant highlight of the day’s proceedings was the Torch Bearing Ceremony, in which selected students of the Department of Physical Education carried the ceremonial torch across the ground in a symbolic relay, culminating at the main dais. The ceremony, evocative of the Olympic torch relay tradition, was organized to symbolize the enduring spirit of sportsmanship, discipline and unity that underlies the celebration of Sports Week 2026, and to pay tribute to the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand Ji, in whose honour National Sports Day is observed each year.
Following the Torch Bearing Ceremony, the March Past commenced, with students of the Department of Physical Education marching in disciplined formation before the dais. The contingents displayed coordinated drill movements, precise formations and military-style synchronization, reflecting the rigorous physical training and discipline instilled through the Department’s academic and co-curricular programmes. The march was executed with notable precision, drawing appreciation from the dignitaries and faculty members present.
The event was graced by the presence of the entire faculty of the Department of Physical Education, whose active involvement ensured the smooth and disciplined conduct of the proceedings. Those present included Dr. Manju Adhikari, Associate Professor and Head of the Department; Dr. Praveen Kumar, Sports Secretary and Convener, University Sports Committee; Dr. Ankit Singh Jadon; Dr. Atul Kumar Tiwari; Dr. Deepak Raghav; Dr. Nishant Kumar; Ms. Deepanshu Choudhary;; Mr. Sharad Panwar; Mr. Shubham Rathi; and Mr. Sanjith TK, Assistant Professor.
Each faculty member contributed to the seamless execution of the day’s events, overseeing various aspects including venue arrangement, discipline and crowd management, guest coordination, sound and logistical arrangements, and documentation, reflecting the Department’s collective and coordinated approach to organizing large-scale University events.
Speaking on the occasion, Department representatives reiterated that the March Past and Torch Bearing Ceremony stood as a fitting tribute to the values of discipline, unity and sportsmanship that Sports Week 2026 seeks to promote, in line with the University’s broader commitment to holistic student development and physical well-being.
Sports Week 2026 will conclude with further events in the coming days, culminating in the grand celebration of National Sports Day 2026 on 29 August 2026, commemorating the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand Ji.
