Department of Physical Education Organizes Guest Lecture on “Modern Training Methods in Track and Field from Grassroots to Elite Level”

The Department of Physical Education, Faculty of Education, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University organized a Guest Lecture on “Modern Training Methods in Track and Field from Grassroots to Elite Level” on 12 May 2026 at the Seminar Hall, Faculty of Education. The programme was organized with the objective of enhancing students’ understanding regarding scientific and contemporary training approaches used in athletics and sports performance development at different levels of participation.

The session commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Manju Adhikari, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Physical Education, who felicitated the distinguished Resource Person, Dr. Vivekanad Dey, by presenting a ceremonial shawl (Padtka) and a sapling as a token of respect and gratitude. The programme witnessed the active presence of faculty members and students from B.P.Ed. and B.P.E.S. programmes.

During the lecture, Dr. Vivekanad Dey delivered an insightful presentation on modern methods of training adopted in track and field events, beginning from grassroots talent identification to elite athlete preparation. He elaborated on the importance of scientific conditioning, biomechanics, nutrition, recovery methods, sports psychology, periodization, and technology-based performance analysis in modern athletics training.

The resource person also highlighted the evolving role of sports science in improving athletic performance and preventing injuries. Various practical examples and real-life sports scenarios were discussed to help students understand the implementation of advanced training techniques in competitive sports. The interactive nature of the lecture enabled students to actively participate in discussions and clarify their doubts regarding coaching methodologies and athlete development.

More than 40 students from B.P.Ed. and B.P.E.S. programmes attended the session enthusiastically. The programme proved highly informative and beneficial as students gained practical exposure and scientific understanding of contemporary track and field training systems.

The guest lecture successfully contributed towards enhancing students’ technical knowledge, coaching awareness, and professional competencies in athletics and sports sciences. The department expressed sincere gratitude to the resource person for delivering an enriching and impactful session.
