Report on National Reading Day
Department of Library and Information Science, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut organized a seminar entitled “Importance of Reading Day in Holistic Development” on the occasion of National Reading Day on 19.06.23 in the remembrance of death anniversary of Dr. P.N. Pannikar. This seminar was organized under the New Education Policy as per the guidelines of UGC. The aim of this seminar was to develop reading habit amongest the students to encourage reading as a key skill.
Dr. Abhay Shankar Gowda, the President of the program& Pro-Vice-Chancellor said on this occasion that “Books are our best friends” so we should make maximum use of them in our life. Dr. Sudhir Tyagi, Head, DLIS and Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, while highlighting the objectives of the seminar said that at present it is very important to develop reading habits among the students for which the library is an important place along with the classroom.
The guest speaker of the program, Dr. Shivpal Singh, Principal of Dewan Institute of Management said that the development in our life is possible only by acquiring more and more knowledge, but it is important that we receive the relevant knowledge only. During the program, Dr. Anoj Raj, Head of Department of Education said that the habit of reading sharpens our memory and increases our knowledge. As a special speaker in the program, Dr. Ashok Tyagi from the Department of Journalism emphasized the importance of reading. Expressing his views, the Dean of Education, Dr. Sandeep Kumar underlined the importance of “National Reading Day” in the program.
Dr. Nishima and Dr. Tushti Sharma gave a beautiful presentation through reciting poetry in English. Dr. Manoj Tripathi and Dr. Shobha Ratudi presented a presentation in Hindi language and Dr. Rafat Khanam presented Poetry in Urdu which greatly entertained all the members present there. The program was successfully conducted by Dr. Neha and Mrs. Aarti.
At the end of the program, the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sapna Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science. Deans, Heads of Departments, teachers and students of various departments were present on the occasion. Everyone appreciated the program very much and listened to the whole program peacefully and attentively. The program ended successfully with enthusiastic and energetic expressions.
